Tell me about the E39 535i

I used to claim more victories in threads too until I learnt not to count people getting bored arguing with me as 'not being proven wrong'.

Me too :).

Anyway, it is not about right or wrong. It is about discussing different perspectives to motoring. This subject is a good example, you run your cars the way you do and I run mine the way I do. At the end of the day we both still enjoy our cars. I don't feel like I'd be able to win you around to my perspective and I reckon you feel the same vise versa. There are no 'winners', its just a discussion.

I'd say he was the winner because he doesn't drive around in a shed ;)

To the vast car owning public, he isnt, to them he is driving a old BMW:(

***** motoring is quite fun, ive done it myself, but its much more soothing having the cash to pay someone else to do the work.Thats why company car ownership is awesome:p

And you say that most people are going to listen to Fox over me like I am fundamentally going to care? He's shown time again that his experience/overall logic of buying and running old expensive cars is somewhat limited. His perception has been warped by spending the vast sum of money he has spent on his 530i and he seemingly thinks that everyone has to run their car to a similar standard or else it is not worth bothering. He is entitled to that opinion and others are entitled to listen to it if they wish, but the type of people who will be following this train of thought wouldn't be interested in a £1500 3.5L V8 BMW in the first place, so it is a bit of a moot point in the grand scheme of things.

I'm bringing a useful perspective to this thread

You were the same guy that said that the engine runs lean first thing in the morning after a car is started.

I was the same guy that made a mistake.

This is the same forum that argued tooth and nail against the thought that Bentley tyre wear is generally biased towards the front axle. Against a guy that has done 100s of tyre reports on them.

Actually to the vast majority of the car buying public its 'a BMW'.

Went to a meeting the day after I sold the 335 and picked someone up on the way. First thing she said on not seeing the blue one was 'ooh, you brought the posh one today?'.

If you are not into having the latest car how new something is tends to matter less :)

And to vast majority of the car buying public that I have spoken to my car is a Lexus/Jaguar that must be on a private plate because their is no way it is on a K/J plate.

I think that may prove that The vast majority of the car buying public are idiots. Or that Soarers are awesome :p.

The number plate and how shiney it is seem to be the biggest indicators to many.

You seem to make a lot of mistakes.

Err, this is the point. Name a few more examples of me being full bore, out and out wrong.

I have different opinions to many people on this forum. That doesn't mean that I'm wrong, just that I'm trying to bring another perspective to discussions.

I'd rather have someone use a Black & Decker power drill to drill through the side of my head that root through your posts copying and pasting example after example.

The people who spotted Elvis last week, believe that there are alien beings living amongst us, don't believe that they're wrong either.

Getting back to the £1.5k 535i, the OP should give it a swerve, up the budget and find a better well kept one.

Would save a lot of time, grief, dealer/indie diagnostics, and the cost of replacement parts and labour, all of which will add up to more than if he had bought a decent one in the first place.

Not that I've paid much attention to these OCUK motors argument arguments over the last 12 months or so, but I understand that the OP is a bit 'notorious' shall we say, in terms of his reputation and credibility....so you know what? I honestly don't really care, if he buys it and spends megawonga and a shed load of time fixing it up. At least he can't say that he was never told.

Mike mate, just be careful that you don't make the same mistake that I made with my new Soarer.

A smooth V8 engine, loads of gadgets and tons of leather seem awesome at first, but unless you're doing mega miles the driving experience tends to be a bit... dull. As a direct replacement for the 182 I fear that you might get bored.

I suspect that is because you can't :).

My 'reputation' among this forum seems that because I don't tend to side with the status quo rather than being flat out all day, everyday. I appreciate that my views aren't necessarily going to be accepted or shared, but I have to balls to make them known and the will to back them up until we all get bored or the thread wanders massively off topic.

Talking to you is like talking to someone with Downs Syndrome - needs a lot of time and energy for not a lot of gain. Except that with the Downs Syndrome person, at least some of it gets through.

Nice one. Trying to mock the forum leaper in attempt to raise your profile among the forum. Good work.

Have a good night :)
