Best balance of hi-spec & cheapness - nvidia ?

Hi, what would be the graphics card with the best balance of spec & cheapness at the moment ? im lost in a world of 900 core clock speeds for less money than the cards with a lesser 700 clock 'because the one with the lesser clock speed has higher 'this that and the other' yet is cheaper, so just when you think 'ok ill sacrafice a bit of clock speed for the cheaper models higher specs (shaders/ processors/ memory etc) it brings me the question - What is the best Nvidia gtx card (470 & above) with the most bang per pound ?

why nvidia? right now AMD has a slight preformance/£ advantage.

i would say probably the HD6850 or if your budget is higher then the 6950. bear in mind the 7000 series should be arriving soon so the 6000 series prices will probably nosedive

Not really...GTX460 1GB and 6850 are on par with each other, but it is possible to find GTX460 1GB for £100 or less, whereas 6850 is still £115-£120 range. For £130-£140 range though, both the 6870 and GTX560 are worth considering, so it's down to preference on features and the games bundled with the card.

If you can still find a 470 at a decent price they are quite hard to top for value for money and performance if your gonna overclock, especially if they have a decent 3rd party cooler.

The 560 is a bit gimped by VRAM even tho its only 256MB less than the 470 and the 570 is a bit expensive for something that isn't significantly faster than the 470 when both have a good overclock.

OK so the OP has asked for a Nvidia at GTX470 and above that is the best bang per buck, and we have had a few suggestions.

a AMD 6850 er not an Nvidia card and slower than the 470.

a GTX460 er right company but still slower.

then we move onto the 6870 well getting closer in performance but still the wrong company.

a GTX 560 well close performance but i don't think I'd call it better.

so that brings us to my suggestions, the budget obviously has a big bearing on this issue, and to get better than a 470 you are looking at spending nearly £200 or more. Now you could go for a GTX560TI but performance wise it is only just ahead, realistically your looking at one of the better OC gtx50ti's or a another £50 and a GTX570.

i asked him why he specified nvidia when amd are currently very competetive. at most price points amd cards are faster. sure you can buy older nvidia cards 2nd hand or whatever for cheaper, but the same goes for amd cards. being an idiot, i didn't notice the part of the post where he said 470 or above, my mistake.

regardless, i would agree with the suggestion of the 570. the 560Ti is certainly worth considering though as it's a fantastic card. for that kind of price though, SLI 460s are viable and would be faster

If you can get a 470 for £140 new then that is the best bang per pound, in my opinion.

This is exactly what I would have said.

The 6950/560 is a good balance between enough raw grunt to enjoy games maxed out (generally) and cheapness.

Personally untill Nvidia put 2Gb of ram on their cards, I would get a 6950.

I dont care for those that say you dont need 2Gb, becuase I have seen countless scenarios where 2Gb is an advantage.
