Brit Abused Kelis at Airport

A huge scar on my cheek proves you wrong, as well as many of my friends who are either asian, african or even europeans from a different country.

You can say what you like but I know people who have travelled to many many different countries and they all say they have never been racially abused as much as when they've entered the UK. Heck even my ex who was Canadian said she experienced racism in this country almost on a daily basis and she was white and blonde and canadian for god sake.

I don't agree. I was 12 when apartheid was abolished in SA, I lived during times of proper hardcore racism. The UK is incredibly fluffy by comparison, the stuff you hear happening in news is actually pretty small in comparison to the overall size and population of the country.

Okay, if you say so. Must be true, I mean the huge scar on your cheek proves it. The entire country is a racism-riddled hateswamp.

Yeah you might think your sarcastic comment is funny, but it's not funny when someone slashes you across the face and misses your right eye by an inch just because your girlfriend is asian.

**** Kelis, she was suppose to be headlining my grad ball, but she pulled out the day before!

We got Zane Lowe as a replacement so I don't really care, but it's the principle.

Indeed, it is not at all funny that someone did that. However that doesn't mean that the UK is specifically more racist than other comparable countries either.

You have had a bad experience, I can appreciate that, however the UK is significantly better than the US or even many European countries such as France, Spain and Italy when it comes to racism and intolerance in their native societies.

Having lived in many countries myself I can assure you, there are far worse places to be living than the UK where racial issue's occur.

South Africa back in the 80's/90's was a horrible place to live if you weren't white, it's barely better than that now even.

lol show me a country that doesnt have racism

Nope dont think anyone can

Absolutely no racism, I can't.
Very well tolerated multicultural society with 3 major races appreciating and understanding the other's cultural and traditions, and growing year on year with each generation learning, appreciating and getting along, yes.

Singapore.

However, with the recent influx of mainland Chinese migrants who don't have the same cultural understanding to the natives is sparking some moments of racial prejudice - that is if native Chinese are being considered racist to migrants Chinese when they call each other names.

But then, I digress.

My sarcasm was meant to point out the generalisation of your sweeping statement. Your own experience of this country does not mean everyone else's experiences are the same and it's nothing short of ignorant and arrogant to be adamant that it does, whether the "proof" you offer is emotive or not.

Of course, like anywhere on the planet, there are people in the UK who are truly prejudiced against people of ethnic backgrounds different to their own, but to suggest that the experiences of your friends (if those 'accounts' are true) are a damning indictment of an entire nation is very short-sighted.

My experience is the polar opposite. I have been the victim of racism and discrimination in the United States, both personal and institutional. The UK however has never been racist to me institutionally and rarely personally.

The UK is an extraordinarily tolerant society on the whole, far more so than many of their European counterparts and most certainly more so than the United States.

Look at what happens to black football players in Spain / Italy / Eastern Europe - they get monkey chants and bananas thrown on the pitch. This happens regularly yet if you did this in the UK you'd get thrown out and maybe charged. Any racist chants or comments on the football terrace these days are heavily frowned upon - in mainland Europe it seems to be ok for some reason.
