Brit Abused Kelis at Airport

Reasonably well read racist if he knew who Kunte Kinte was.

Not really. If he was older than 45-50 he would have probably remembered it from TV. Roots was huge when I was a kid. I recognised the name and I wasn't even 10 at the time.

The TV series was a bit of a phenomenon.

She sounds like a right snob.

How do we brush racism under the carpet?

What evidence do you have of that?

Stupid woman.

I think she gets that impression because in my experience Americans tend to complain about every little thing that is wrong but in the UK people tend not to complain as much unless it is a more major thing..

Stiff upper lip and all that

It's very probably a very uneducated comment in that she knows nothing about racism in the UK but since brits have the global reputation for not being moaners she assumes that we just ignore racism the same way we would say a steak that is not cooked quite how we ordered it.

Kellis who?

Another dumb yank with a chip on her shoulder no doubt. Dont come back to the uk would be my advise to her and those like her. Your self importance is pathetic & a driving force behind the declining morals of this country.

Unfortunately she has a point thou. The UK and English people in general are incredibly racist.

You aren't aloud to to have frank and open discussion on any remotley racial issuse in this country without fear of being called racist. This in itself festers and causes more problems I would love for an open disuccussion on race issues in government as ther are big big problems being swept under the rug and its going to explode in the future all because the liberal left have managed some how to foist this fog of liberalism and political correctness on us paralysing free and open speech.

Remember most of you under a certain age have only ever know a world of political correctness and was educated in this age of labour spin and lies.

Not even that old - I remember roots. Also, Star Trek fans will know LeVar Burton played Kunta Kinte.

No she doesn't, and no they aren't. But thanks for your input, you can go now.

A huge scar on my cheek proves you wrong, as well as many of my friends who are either asian, african or even europeans from a different country.

You can say what you like but I know people who have travelled to many many different countries and they all say they have never been racially abused as much as when they've entered the UK. Heck even my ex who was Canadian said she experienced racism in this country almost on a daily basis and she was white and blonde and canadian for god sake.

what book did you steal that from??
Please your making it out to be like an african genocide with scaring peoples faces, maybe you were just being a knob to the wrong people and got just deserts....

I work with people of indian / pakinstani / african eastern european descent and never hear any form of racism, maybve this so called racism is people taking offence of nothing to make themselves get all the attention...

if seen the race card played by so many teenagers its not even funny anymore, they seem to think saying any issue is because the colour of their skin will solve it.

My experience is the polar opposite. I have been the victim of racism and discrimination in the United States, both personal and institutional. The UK however has never been racist to me institutionally and rarely personally.

The UK is an extraordinarily tolerant society on the whole, far more so than many of their European counterparts and most certainly more so than the United States.
