Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 19th September 2011]

I think it is always known though if you actually catch the player you will get booked if your foot is high, first was never a yellow mind you.

Please explain to me how Adam's first foul was a booking.

He pulled him down from behind. Mike Jones set himself out early, just because it was early you were having a moan. Stop making yourself look silly.

Set himself out early to book liverpool players? Spurs had more fouls than us lol.

Adam was trying to barge through two bodies, and he hardly pulled him down.

He had his arm round him, had a few lessons of Carragher I think.

As much of a red card candidate as Skrtel was today, Flanagan would have been even more so. He'd have cut Bale in half inside the first 15 minutes and been off.

Maybe so but he did well back end of last season vs some good players, So it would have been a better option Skrtel has played there what a couple times tops

Well no, because i complained just as much about how shockingly **** the ref was against Bolton, it was just no one bothered to question me on how bad he was due to the fact we actually won 3-1.

With a good ref today, we still would have lost i'd imagine, had we actually been at the game today he may have cost us.

The ref wasn't shocking today, Adam's and Skrtel deserved to go, what did he get so massively wrong? Everyone else seems to be saying the first yellow for Adam's was a cynical pull back, which is always a yellow, the second card he got could EASILY have been a straight red, honestly you should count yourself lucky there was the option of a second yellow there, if not the ref could well have given him a straight red.

No one seems to be debating Skrtel, Adebayor high foot, that makes no contact should be a card..... even though without contact thats never a yellow card for anyone else?

Suarez dived to get his freekick on the edge of the box, should have been a yellow, I can't remember if Coates got a yellow or not for hacking down Adebayor, but he completely missed the ball and took his ankle....... you could have come close to argueing he'd have been through on goal, but that would have been very very harsh.

Adams - Garbage. First yellow could've been avoided had he just played the ball simple instead of trying to take on 3 players by himself. Second yellow was late and high. Only has himself to blame because he gave the ref the choice to send him off and he did. Should not be starting against top 10 teams because he isn't good enough.

its worth looking at how much HUGELY better Utd look with Anderson and Cleverley in midfield over Carrick/Fletcher/whoever, I'd say Utd won the title last year inspite of Carrick and Fletcher(when he played), and didn't win it the year before specifically because of those guys.

Guys who pass safe, play safe, are easy to play against, they rarely make mistakes and rarely cost you games, but they almost never win you games and almost never help the team play well. Stick in players who aren't too scared to make a mistake, and the whole team plays better, each and every single player looks better this year for Utd. You shouldn't have a go at Adam's because he doesn't get every pass right. Look at Arsenal, Song/Denilson/Diaby/Theo often have great pass completion, often keep posession, but its because they never make useful passes. I'd take Adam's any day over Song. Problem is, on a game where everyone looks crap, and nothings working, the guys who are riskier but better players look awful, when the teams working, they look awesome.

Well played Spurs. Thoroughly deserved your win and would've won without us going down to 9, Kenny has a lot of work to do.

Reina - Rare mistake but didn't have much to do all game but pick the ball out of the net :o

Skrtel - He's struggled at right back every time he's played there. I know Johnson and Kelly are injured but where's Flannagan?

Agger - Looked ok until he got injured. Defence fell to pieces once he went off.

Carragher - Another game laden with mistakes, negative balls back to Reina and aimless long balls forward. Needs to be dropped soon.

Enrique - Another good game at the back and going forward. Think some of the fouls given against him were unfair. Probably our best player.

Henderson - Completely anonymous yet again. He might have bags of potential but he's not good enough to be starting week in week out yet and he's certainly not good enough to keep Kuyt on the bench.

Lucas - Some poor passing in the first half but ran himself ragged and made some great tackles. Love his attitude but there's only so much one player can do on their own.

Downing - Very little time on the ball and faded in the second half.

Suarez- Very poor game. Control let him down and his temper got the best of him. Already looks sick and tired of having to do everything on his own.

Carroll - Got absolutely no service but got stuck in and tried to do his best. Don't really have any complaints about his game today.

Kenny - Wrong starting 11, wrong formation, slow to adapt to the problems Spurs were causing us and slow to change personal. Probably his worst game ever as manager of us.

Needs to address our problems at the back and in the centre of midfield fast because we're not playing well at all.

You have to be honest at some point and look at the liverpool and arsenal teams at the moment and say that neither one of them has a good team. Liverpool have maybe 2 players that would get into another team in the top 4 - 5, same for arsenal. You have both replaced quality with mediocrity.

Torres has papered over the cracks in liverpool for years and suarez will do that again to a certain degree but your team is just not good enough. If you offered your entire team to Tottenham, they might take suarez and reina. I would be surprised if anyone else got a look in.

Arsenal and liverpool fans are going to have to face up to the fact that their squads will be lucky to get them a top 8 finish.

He done well last season but his biggest weakness is the way he goes flying into tackles, some of which he has no hope of getting to.

Against a player like Bale, who doesn't need an invitation today and who'd target Flanagan, it could have easily ended worse than it did for Skrtel.

Neither were ideal and pre-game it would have been a marginal call between the 2.

True, Bah we were utter crap either way glad its over lol >.<

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp on Spurs fans cheering ex-Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who scored two goals against Liverpool on his home debut: "Football's a funny old game. Saddam Hussein could have bought a football club and, if he'd pumped millions in, everyone would have sung, 'There's only one Saddam'. Adebayor's worked hard today and put a real shift in. They really love him here."

Good old 'Arry :D

Neither team have started well but which teams are going to keep us out of the top 8 exactly? We'll both be top 6 come the end of the season.

Today aside, we've not started well? Had we had any luck against either Sunderland and Stoke, we could have easily found ourselves with maximum points going into todays game.

Top 8 might have been a wee bit harsh but I would be surprised if both arsenal and liverpool hit the top 6. I just can't see the quality in either squad.
