Battlefield 3 upgrade

The beta should be out before the end of the month - if you have pre-ordered you'll be able to access it. That should give you a good indication of what you'll need to run the game.

Beta is out any day now so just wait. Think DICE have been running SLI 580s for their own demos so that will give you some idea....

Seen as the game isnt out till the end of October, the only sensible option now is to wait on news on the next gen. I think the 7 series is likely to be released Q4 2011.

The only information we have is an NVIDIA spokeman saying "2x 580GTX will run the game flat out no problem". Then again, it was NVIDIA that said a 8800GTX would run Crysis flat out no problem, what a joke that was!

Really? lol:p

OP best to wait till beta is out. That would give you more solid info about your current setup performanc.

Full game is only about 5 weeks away. I am sure you can manage to get by those 5 weeks ;)

in alpha 5850 played it well few stutters but that may just be cos the game isnt optimised at that time, any high end gfx card should run it fine with decent rates. to the op why not get 2x 2gb 6950s or 70s and get a new psu to run it, cheaper option than a 6990

6950 CF should be enough. you never know when are the new cards gonna come

friendly advice :)

Unless they've changed the rules recently, only 4 lines of text allowed in a sig.
Otherwise you are likely to end up with an infraction ;)

Yup, it was at the NVIDIA 8 series launch event if I remember rightly. They demoed Crysis on a single 8800GTX at max settings with DX10 and it ran like a dream and they said that Crysis runs perfectly on the 8800GTX. It was that Cevet Yerli guy from Crytek who first made the statement which was then repeated by NVIDIA numerous times. That was until the Demo/BETA was launched of course.

Lol Nvidia got duped by Crytek.:p

The way I see it.....

My 4890 pcs+ 975mhz oc core is about 5-9 god slower than an ATI 5850.

5850 is about 5fps slower than an ATI 6870.

If I were to upgrade other than dx11 I can only afford 150 quid which would be a 6870 and around 12fos better tham my card now.... I only game at 1680*1050. I'll buy win7 first and see how I go.

Your rig will play BF3 fine. The only reason I'm going to upgrade my rig is because I want new 28nm hotness....and it sounds like that's not going to be possible until after BF3 is released anyway.

I hope so :)

I'm looking at playing BF3, MW3 & counterstrike global offensive.

The only one I was worried about was bf3 but judging the 4890 plays bf: bc2 fine at medium, im hoping this will do the same.

Interesting, I'm able to play at maximum settings on BFBC2 (graphic content depending) on my Nvidia Palit GTS 250 1 gig card at 1080p, but then I'm running an I7 920 CPU.

I used to have an ATI 4850 and had BF:bc2 set to medium with that. In all honesty I thought the medium setting looked ok and never though about changing it when I was given the 4890 PCS+ to high.... I might give it a whirl later on :)

Is there anyway in game u can check the FPS in bc2? or do you have to use fraps etc?

In multiplayer games I always leave off AA & AF and normally set graphics to high or medium.

so in bfbc2 I have the resolution set to 1680*1050 & medium. I'll try this on high later on.
