Dale Farm Cleared Tomorrow?

Why are we still calling them travellers when its quite clear they are not?

Because if I call them thieving gypsy scum people will not like me?

But on the eve of the adjudicator's arrival, some travelers moved into Calahoo Park, and before you could say gypsy scum we were knee deep in dog muck, thieving kids and crusty jugglers.

Hmmm, may not have been an appeal hearing, but a scheduled meeting with the council, it was on the bbc page but as they're updating the one page rather than creating new ones both that and mention of the press conference have now gone.

It was a phone call to the council, nothing more, nothing less.

The council made on offer to accommodate the travellers, travellers tried to delay until November and now the eviction is to go ahead.

Funny how they've all been offered accomodation from the council, but none have accepted, and at any oppurtunity are now harping on about after they're evicted they'll be homeless. Utter balls.

I expect the vast majority of UK citizens want to see them removed (maybe in an entertaining way) but they can't go down and show support for the law since they have jobs.

Even the English and Romanian ones?

These are Irish Travellers, not Romany Gypsies. Whether there are any English among them or not who can say, but Romany and Traveller rarely if ever mix, in fact the Irish Travellers are pretty unwelcoming to anyone not of their blood.

I'm not sure why there's so much enthusiasm for their eviction. The whole thing is just a lose situation.

If they are allowed to stay then there will be absolutely no fair or just way to prevent, say, yourself from deciding to build whatever you choose in your back garden irrespective of planning permission.

Before you state that that seems fair, given its your garden, imagine what would happen if everyone was allowed to just build unlimited numbers of dwellings anywhere they want?

I still don't see why we should be viewing this eviction with such spasmodic enthusiasm, as if it's the space launch or something really great. It's a totally rubbish situation for everyone involved, and the actions that are about to be taken will do nothing other than enforce planning law this one time.

And if they do not it will encourage similar sites and undermine civil authority.

It may be a tragic situation, but it is one they bought upon themselves.

Good. If they want rights then they can live in proper homes, pay taxes, behave like decent human beings and generally act as if they deserve the same rights as the rest of us.

It's about time these Caravan Utilising Nomadic Traveller Societies were delt with.

I see what you did there :D

I'm not debating that's the case, but I really struggle to feel good about it. Many people seem to be eliciting some kind of pleasure from what's effectively some kind of small-scale civil war with our society pitted against theirs, and one I have a sense will end badly, yet not at all solve any of the underlying problems.

This is sort of what I think is a bit wrong. Dehumanisation, denial of rights. Great. I think people should try to remember this is a planning rights violation and not an opportunity for some kind of cleansing.
