Chimps are impressively muscly

How is that possible then? I can understand a human with less muscle being able to take down a massive bodybuilder if the less muscly person has good skill as a fighter. But how can a less muscly person be physically stronger if muscle mass is what determines physical strength?

Muscle density > then bloated muscle size.

Look at powerlifting and strongmen, they are far smaller in muscle size but far far stronger.

Having stronger and more muscle fibres is vastly different to just having large muscles, which usually just have plenty of fluids built up as well.

I would be interested to know how a commando or special forces soldier would hold against these kind of animals in a fight?

Most of these comparisons are against normal humans.

What would be interesting is a muzzled chimp vs one of the top UFC fighters in the octagon. Like a 250 lb human vs a 150 lb chimp. I think if it was a really big aggressive dude the chimp might be quite intimidated and just run around the perimeter of the cage in circles. If you ran at it and smashed it against the wall while it was running in circles you would have a good start at the fight. Then just keep punching it the head. Their legs are very short and they use their arms mostly so as soon as you could get the chimp in an arm bar and break one of it's arms you've basically won. Then you could exploit your long human legs and just kick the **** out of it as it tried to move without the aid of it's broken arm. In fact you may be able to break it's arms by kicking them. Once you have displayed your dominance as the alpha male it would quickly surrender in submission, much like a dog. At which point you could punch or choke it unconscious.

If said soldier has a knife and knows how to use it, the chimps strength won't count for much. I just can't see the soldier winning otherwise.

+1 for seeing special forces vs chimp :D

No weapons of course otherwise that would defeat the object.

Lol nice scenario:p

However chimps are also capable of high jump, aren't they? In that case chimp can just use jump advantage and kick his legs straight at ufc fighter face. That sure is going to result in ufc fighter seeing some stars

On the other hand, a full grown gorilla vs ufc fighter. Now that I would like to see lol :p

People keep saying humans are physically inept. We're not. We're one of the best long distance runners and are only not in the modern age because we have eaten too many pork pies and watched too much telly. In the natural world though, humans can beat in distance almost any animal.

Long distance isn't important if you can't outrun the animal full sprint over the short distance.

Are we the best at anything physically though?

Cycling perhaps?

People need to remember that certain complicated tasks that test strength in a Scientific manner needs a certain degree of intelligence and comprehension, so a Chimpanzee Vs. A Bodybuilder/Weightlifter experiment would be extremely difficult to perform, it could take years of intensive training to get the Bodybuilder/Weightlifter to understand what they needed to do :D

Recall a documentary where a camera crew was following some fairly thin and dark skinned bloke around, if he couldn't actually kill say a deer shaped creature on the spot he'd out-endure it by frankly tracking and chasing it to death, when it all ended the deer thing was just knackered on the ground in a bush and could barely move as the bloke speared it.

See above.

AHAR. This is exactly what I'm on about. Persistence hunting.

Ripped does NOT equal strong! You can be as strong as a body builder and not look so muscley

Body builders are often nowhere near as strong as they look. It's essentially working really hard to make your muscles less efficient.
