Dale Farm Cleared Tomorrow?

They dont own all the land. They own the orginal land that the scrapyard was built on. They then started to build on green belt land next to this which they didnt own I believe, hence the buildings being illegal. The cost to the council has been rather a lot already I am also of the view that its gone on to long but dont think they should get away with it either and streamlining the process is what is really needed to stop stuff like this from dragging on. Anyone who refuses to go should be delt with in the appropriate manner.

Just what is everyones problem with this? If I wanted to build a house in my parents field, got refused planning permission but built the house anyway, it would eventually be torn down. Simples.

I hate these ****ing 'activists' with their signs saying 'Stop ethnic cleansing'. It's nothing to do with them being ***** scum, it's the law ffs! Why shouldn't it be torn down? Gah.

I want to go down to Dave Gilmour's house and protest because he's being made to remove a building he built without permission...

Vanessa redgrave can go boil her head, all these celebrity supporters I bet haven't had their front door kicked in or intimidated by gangs if ******

Personally i'd like to see the council get overruled and them just be left to it.

Almost everybody the press interviewed locally today was fed up with the entire thing, saw it as a huge gigantic waste of public time and money and thought they should be left alone.

Its been like this for 10 years, and this will ultimately not do anybody any favors. It causes the council cost, aggravation and time, and it leaves women, children and the elderly homeless.

The only people who seem to be bothered about it are the council officials banging on about "the principle of it"

Oh and the war mongers on here.

I've lived close to a traveller camp and whilst I'm not going to over exaggerate (I didn't get my house broken into, property vandalized, personally assaulted (although it did come close) etc) it did frequently make life extremely unpleasant. It's like living next door to a whole estate of the most delinquent, ASBO touting, aggressive families possible. Nobody would live next to them if they had the choice and a camp that size must be a nightmare.

I can assure you that if the majority of residents say "they should be left alone" it's only because the thought of trying to get an inept council to actually do there job properly after 10 years is even worse. I'm not surprised they're fed up with it, they must be exasperated. The situation should have been rectified years ago. Besides, I can't see many local people being forthcoming in criticizing gypsies on TV. I wouldn’t.

Not enforcing this would set an unbelievably dangerous precedent. I agree it's a waste of money but the problem isn't the law, it's how it’s enforced.
