"GTX 560M" How good is this GFX card?

Just saw a m17r3 with a 580M gpu.

Less than a grand (not inv VAT) so probably be about a grand with VAT.

EDIT: argh, someone snapped it up :(

Been up there a few days!

Ah, someone's nabbed it though! :(

Looking for a laptop for university myself (Creative Digital Media) so it needs to be a nice laptop to take to uni.

Was looking at 13inch screens with decent resolution, or 14-15" but im stuck.

Going to middlesbrough tomorrow to have a play with some at sunny (idk if i can mention them directly, so interpret as you wish :p) at least then i can have a feel for the screen size and weight.

However the ones on the outlet: XPS L502x to be exact, is seemingly a beast for its prices. Will look at reviews.

Oh, and sorry for the thread hijack :p

Thats the one, but its worth waiting, i got one earlier with 6990 (as fast if not faster than the 580), 1080p screen, bluray, 2820 cpu, 4gb ram, 320gb hard disk - £1090.

I will add 4gb and a 750gb faster drive for £90 and it will be pretty much top spec then.

Ordered the Qosmio X770-107 17.3 And didn't cost me £1499, but £1395!i. Just before i was going to order, I searched online for reviews, and came up with a link (reevo) that said this particular shop (pc/W) has 7% off all laptops over £599, i was just going to order it before that, but this Saved me £105:) - so brought

Elements SE External Hard Drive - 1TB, Black
WNA1100 N150 Wireless USB Adapter
Ultra Power AA Alkaline Batteries - 12 Battery Pack
2x Speed BD-RE Blank Blu-ray Disc - Single Disc
CR2032 Lithium Batteries - 2 battery pack..............With the "Change" i had

All totalling £1500.94, so in effect, i got those for free;)

well I didn't get quite as good a deal as Mark but I bagged one for £900 with 1080p, 2630qm and gtx560.
Anyone know what sort of lead time from the outlet these days? would love to get it this week!

Antx777 - what made you choose the qosmio over the alienware?

About a week, just had my confirmation that im getting mine next Tuesday.

Actually though, the one i had ordered, i cancelled, a better one came up, £1090 inc vat, but 1080p screen, bluray, 6990 radeon, 2820 cpu :)

Thanks for that.

maybe I will try and pick up your cancelled order ;)

Think the 560m will be good enough for me and I can drop in a 6990 and 2820qm down the road when needed

Yeah, I was happy with the 560m to be honest, the bluray and the cpu swayed it more for me but the new 2660/2760/2860 have just came out, the new 2660 is the same speed as the old 2720, so its a cheap upgrade when you do that.

Yeah, gonna start scanning the bay for cheap cpu's. the 2630qm is ok but I love the high turbos of the 2720/2820 or new counterparts.

Just need to sell my m14x now

They fixed the noise issue in the latest BIOS but it does run quite hot (the joys of 1 fan for both gpu and cpu).
I love the machine but need a bit more muscle as I play a lot of red orchestra 2 and will be playing BF3 hence getting the 17x. And yeah I also read it is much quieter but bear in mind the 6990 card is a 100w card so might push your noise/temps up

I flashed mine but it went from being silent half the time to being slightly noisy all the time which was a bit annoying. The 14 I used to sit with it on my lap while the 17 will be sat on a table/desk, that said if its too hot/noisy, Ill fire it back toot sweet, the beauty of distance selling :)

Think a few users have been undervolting the 6990 successfully. I know the 6970 undervolts nicely plus the 6750 in my mbp allows me to undervolt with ATI tools (from 1.1v to 0.955v) whilst overclocking (600/800 > 800/1000). This knocks a good few degrees off my temps

Plus you can manually control the fans with HWinfo to save flashing. I have used that on all my alienware laptops (m11x, m14x and m15x)

Edit - just got my EDD for the 28th!

A few factors. Less weight and bulk, Has a Blu-ray Re-Writer, Has 3D Vision (120Hhz Screen, some come with glasses, not all though i hear). New Unit with one year warrentee etcplus one main reason:

When looking for a "gaming" laptop, i don't bother about ultra GFX Config, as these can cost 2-3K (580M SLI for example) and these will be outdated in a couple of years or so. With a decent Card, however in the GTX560, My expectations aren't "too high", and will compromise V/High settings in some games. With a very high-end GFX Card, these compromises are less appealing though if you have very expensive GFX cards in your config. The Qosimo X770 is like (to me) an "all-rounder" that does a lot of everything, and quite goofd too (so i've read/heard.

Will be here Friday Morning, and the £105.00 saving clinched it for me.

Wasn't aware you could swap GFX/CPU's card out though on the ALienware's
