Hi all...
Please forgive if this is here before, I did search=Unlucky :(

As this price is for this week only, don't want to miss out, well over £600 elsewhere :(
So, I am seriously looking to buy this: Dell Ultra-Sharp U2711 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-051-DE&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=
But, I have never seen that resolution before 2560x1440? I already have a Samsung 22" @1680x1050, and know a little about HD res@ 1920x1080...So what is this res 2560x1440, I'm really confused?
Will this Dell make games look strange? it seems a very awkward Resolution to me, but that again I know little :)
Does anyone here use this Dell monitor? or is anybody gaming at this resolution?.....Any information on this, would be very much appreciated.....

Cheers...

It's a 16:9 resolution. Games will scale well and look great. Since the pixel pitch is closer together, everything will appear slightly smaller. This includes text.

It's a great resolution to use with lots of space and good for gaming if you have the card that can run it.

However, I personally can not use it as the Dell anti glare coating is crap and makes whites look sparkly and grainy.

Hi
Thanks for reply :) Yep, just about to build a gaming PC, with the Ge-force GTX 590...Don't think any problems running 2560x1440 at all :) I have anti glare with the Samsung 22" that I have now, it's never been a problem for me :) Seems to be the best price too, nearly £700 every where else I looked :)

Thanks again..

Samsung panels tend to have a much lighter AG surface. I can assure you that the Dell surface is significantly and visibly different. Just be aware of this.

Thanks, I hear what you say ;) I hope it's not too much of a problem, as I just ordered it :) been reading up on some really great reviews too...Thank you for your knowledge

Just checking you're aware the monitor only has a 1 year warranty? Hence the low price. If that's not an issue for you then it is a rather good bargain :)

I had looked at the monitor on amazon, and ******, @ nearly £700 but did come with a three year warranty, lets hope :) I know things DO go wrong, we are all looking for cheaper ;)

Thanks all for your support and knowledge :D

Look forward to your thoughts. Don't worry about anything negative you may have read - all that really matters is how you find it when it arrives. I hope you'll love it. The U2711H was the first monitor I ever used with that resolution and it was a very nice experience in a lot of ways.

Also, I believe if you are worried about the warranty you can purchase some sort of extension from that rainforest you mentioned. I don't know much about how this works but apparently it doesn't matter whether the product itself was ordered from them as it is a 'third party' service.

Need some help....OK, my Dell 2560x1440 was delivered today....Hooked it up to my PC that has 9800GTX+ ...Now from what I been reading this card should display 2560x1440 OK, But it seems stuck on my old res which was my Samsung 22" @1680x1050. Any res I pick above this everything looks garbled, I have used the new cables that came with the monitor, so I'm clueless :(....Any help with this would be great please!!

Here are my PC specks if this helps:...
CPU: AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core
Mobo: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe
Mem: 4GB
Graphics: Single 9800GTX+ 512mb

All the above are stock with no OC

Cheers

Have you installed the monitor driver and is your gpu driver up to date?
You're definitely using the cable that came with the monitor? If you have another dual link cable, you could try with that. Your refresh rate set to 60hz?

hi clippa....Monitor driver installed ...Using dual link DVI that came with it..refresh @60hz

I've not got a spare dual link DVI ..But monitor came with a new one ...My games recognize the res 2560x1440 and I can set that res in the games .. But not the desktop, it's stuck @ 1680x1050 ...
Could it be anything to do with chipset drivers for the mobo?

Thanks for your help :)

Might be to do with your video card, Single 9800GTX+ 512mb might not be enough, thought you had mentioned you had a GTX 590 ?

I shall be putting together a new gaming rig with ether, GTX 590/or two 580's that's why I bought the monitor for..:) Rigged up monitor in old PC....Yes the 9800GTX+ should run at max resolution 2560x1600...but will struggle with intense games...should be ok with it just doing light browsing and stuff :)

After many hours of "Frigging" around...Finally found that the cable that was sent with this monitor "Was not dial link" :(
Took a trip up to my local PC World, spent £27.99 on a Dual Link DVI-D Cable  Monitor now displays 2560x1440 ...looks GREAT!!! Not happy though with having to spend money to make it look great :(:mad:

Email OC UK and inform them they shipped the wrong cable. The very least they can do is send you a new cable.
Never hurts to have a spare one, certainly not if your local shop sells them for almost €28. Mine cost almost a third of that..

Email sent :) I wouldn't have minded so much, but took about 4 hours of frigging around, even thought at one point that it was mobo chipset drivers not able to display the res :(

But anyway, working now :) and can say WOW!! about monitor clean, crisp, and sharp,....Funny enough my 9800GTX+ 512mb, is actually coping very well at 2560x1440...even gaming!!!....
I shall put together a more up to date gaming rig, now I have a good monitor.
Not sure now though, to wait a bit for AMD Bulldozer, or go with an i5 2500k?

HMM...Time for some "Thinks" :)
