I knew my 5750 + e5200 wasn't going to cut it, glad I upgraded, feel a lot safer in the knowledge BF3 won't run like a diabetic dog.

This is the first game I have been so excited about after such a long time
Would be nice but i really doubt it, the BC2 patch is supposed to be rolling out around Wednesday.
At the most we'll (FINALLY) get a Date along with the Beta FAQ, possibly a Trailer for the Beta as well.

Overclock that 4850 and it should be enough to play the game on reasonable settings I'm guessing.
I'm hoping my 5 year old e6300 @ 3.15ghz and an overclocked 470gtx with 4gb of RAM will be plenty for max or near to settings at 1680x1050

4850 should still be a good card for a decent res.
If BF3 looks so good on consoles with outdated gfx, then surely 4850 should be a good card to play game at perhaps medium settings on 1680x1050

(being harsh as its better to be harsh as it wont get expectations up)
For steady frame rate (40 - 60fps) with the upgrade
My guess would be 1280x1024 (720p) with medium and 1 or 2 settings on low.
If you are going to upgrade cpu you might as well upgrade motherboard.

I think it'll do low res and/or with low settings. They wont want to exclude people with a card still selling a couple years ago only, the main thing might be low memory/latency
I can remember buying my e6400 xmas 2006 so this on the other hand might be time to upgrade from.
For whatever reason games just suddenly started needing quad cores and only a very fast later version dual core would I say yea maybe that wont lag out tenth of a second going round corners

Will be very interesting seeing the BF3 beta benchmarks, i'd imagine that dual core users will be very disappointed with the performance...

Didnt anyone on Alpha try a dual core ? Beta should be a fairer test as its basically not beta at all most likely
8500 was the one I was thinking, maybe. Depends how fussy you are, I played BC2 on dual core and it was ok enough but I did die sometimes because of my cpu which kinda sucks when I wasnt that good to begin with
