Moving into a 2 bed flat soon I've got most things budgeted for by looking through past threads.

But, assuming there are 2 of us full time working would you say budgeting £100 a month for both electric and gas is realistic ?

You're well below average ^^, £100 a month seems like a decent starting figure for your circumstances.

Greatly depends on usage, so it's hard to give accurate estimates even based on similar properties, it's easy to say you can live off £x amount of food for example, but you don't want to budget too little and then find your electric shower and supercomputer has used 1000KWh!

£100? Give over. If it's over £70, you're doing it wrong, given that my monthly direct debit for a 3 bed semi is £69 or thereabouts.

I'm in the same situation as the OP, 2 FT ppl in a 2 bed flat. Over the summer months we've paid a combined bill of £47 a month, however this will increase in winter due to central heating being on more, lights on more etc.

£66 on DD here for a 1 bed flat but I'm also running a 100 gallon marine tank with MH lights over it and a lot of pumps!

I think £75 should cover you though...

2 bedroom house and my first electric bill came to £41.62 for 3 months. I do live by myself but I have 3 TV's, one being a CRT, loads of game consoles plus 6 PC's running in my house, which are on for a lot of the time.

2 people, 1 bed new build flat, all electric.

£100 a month electric to average the peaks and troughs of winter and summer.

42" Plasma, computer, laptop, 3kWh a day for boiler, and oven are the main power draws.

I pay £72 a month combined for a 3 bed semi and have a credit built up for the winter, so depending on useage/insulation/blubs etc I'd say £100 is more than enough to cover it if you want a little leway (with winter coming I'd be tempted to go higher for a few months, see what you are actually using and adjust accordingly).

Incidentally, why are people up in arms about energy prices so much - I dont feel £70 is much to harp about, not compared to the £400+ a month going out on shopping :(

I feel £100 a month starting point is good, semi detached 3 bed 3 adults at home we pay £140 a month combined.

£60 a month in winter, £20 a month summer, all electric 4 bed detached 3 people. Are some of you lot just on a bad tariff?

My last bill (this month paid quarterly) was £92.67, that is for 2 of us in a 3 bed terraced house.

Although tbh it is usually around £190. You will be fine budgeting £100 a month, you won't spend that unless you are doing something drastic like growing a weed farm.

I work from home so my wife and I are at home a lot more than people who go to work elsewhere. We are on the best tariff we could find. We always shop around for the best rates.

Who are you with and what plan?

I'm on EDF Fixed 2 until September next year, and it is now the cheapest for me since the other providers have jacked up their prices.
