Today THQ announced that Crytek will develop the next installment in their Homefront Series.

“Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ.

“Homefront‘s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.”

“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ,” said Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek. “We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”

The first Homefront title was released back in March, proving to be an enormous success for THQ. This move in particular adds promise to the games sequel, as Crytek will no doubt bring their high level of expertese with them to take Homefront to the next level.

Unfortunately the yet to be named sequel is set for release in 2014, so there’s a bit of a wait!

2014!? Should be on next gen consoles and be using Cryengine 3 to its fullest then. Sounds good :)

Will be great to see what they can do with a different setting, haven't played homefront myself but hear it was a compelling set up let down by the game itself, providing they pitch the pc product in a light that cannot be spat at by the pc gaming community.

Well, they closed down KAOS studios so I assume it did not do that well.

I was a BIG Fuel of War fan but Homefront was nothing like its predecessor.

Trying to milk the IP for all it is worth I think.

And as for Crytek, what have they done what was decent?

Yes, they can make pretty looking engines but they cannot make games for ****.

Fixed. User scores are not much better of a barometer.

Nobody can quote Metacritic to prove a game is good can they?

That is like bringing a tramp to a gunfight, it is irrelevant.

Ive also played all of crytek's games. How else would you have me quantify the fact that they are good games if not through an aggregated score that even someone like you can understand (or not in this case)

.........

I played the demo a few times and thought it was ok but at the same time, I couldn't see the point in it. You might as well just play call of duty. Apparently the console version can be had new for £5. I'd maybe pick it up for that price.

So let me get this straight, Crytek bungled Crysis 2 so badly that they've burnt all of their bridges with EA, there key staff are leaving en masse and they've been reduced to contract developers making the sequel of a game that was both a Critical and Commercial failure? OK.

i completed homefront but didnt find it interesting, wasnt immersive sound of weapons sound like metal grinding against a stone if that makes sense and was far too short....wouldnt play again

Hopefully crytek can make it into something worthwhile

I liked Far Cry, Crysis, and Warhead. Crysis (1) is actually my favourite of the bunch, even with the graphics taken away, it was a class shooter imo. Having the suit and being left to do what needed done in your own way appealed to me anyway

I liked the single player and multiplayer has been great fun for £10. Plus its full of utter noobs so its so easy :D
