Hi Guys
I've not been on this forum for about 10 months or so, not since my last upgrade which was forced on me after the psu went boom.
Anyway we're about to move house in 2 months time and money is going to be pretty scarce then and for the foreseeable future.

Bearing all that in mind i may if i'm a good bout have a spare £200 to spend on a wee upgrade now which will hopefully extend the life of my pc for a good while to come.

My current spec is:
Intel Core i7-920 DO
Asus P6T Delux V2
Corsair H50 cooler
OCZ 120gb SSD
500gb Samsing spinpoint
Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB
MSI GeForce GTX 460 Hawk
Win 7

That's the basics. My feeling is it's going to cost a lot more than £200 to upgrade the cpu/motherboard etc so I'm looking at the graphics card.

So first up do you agree the graphics card is the obvious upgrade?

If it is what's my next step, is a 560 to small a step to be worth doing?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Difficult one. The 560 isn't worth it imo. Going SLI seems to be the best option or god forbid save for a GTX570/6950. Maybe sell the 460 and add it to the kitty.

Yeah could do that I suppose but i've never fully trusted sli, always been a one card man.
I'll consider it though.

I understand, I try to stay away from multi-GPU setups after hassle with a 4870x2, but at £200 you're not going to get much of an upgrade over a 460 with a single card unless you buy second hand.

If i was to sell the 460 and buy a 570, is that considered a decent enough upgrade?....................certainly more so than the 460.

You don't say which version of the 460 you've got, is it 768MB or 1GB?

How about a 470 for £146? - link

The 470 is quite a bit faster than the 1GB 460, comparison here

I have the MSI Hawk 1gb with twin frozr fans and it's a great card, wouldn't really be thinking of upgrading if it wasn't for................last chance to upgrade for a while, plus i smell the battlefield coming :)

Thanks for the link to the 470, incredible price. However i had my fingers burnt with the 460 when i went for a basic model at first and it was loud. I'm drawn to those twin frozr's :)

  1. Go for another 460 (I personally prefer one card as well, however)
  2. Sell your 460, and get a 570.
  3. Sell your 460, push the budget a bit more, and pick up a used 580 off eBay.

Those would be my considerations.

I'm not sure if mentioning eBay counts as a competitor? If so, let me know and I'll remove it. I don't see people getting warnings for 'that famous auction site' though, so... :D

setup trust on this website as you have been a member fort over a year and have over 100 posts this will give you members market access (better than ebay for pc hardware)

sell the 460 buy a 580
WIN WIN
