Heyup,

Just put together my FX crosshair V + OCZ ZX 1000w PSU, Just waiting on the ever illusive bulldozer now.

This is my first build, so I thought I'd ask. I know obviously the 24 pin EATXPWR plug goes in the motherboard, but my question is do I need to plug in the 8 pin as well as this? I always thought it was just the 24 pin. The manual hints section for this bit on page 2-25 says: 'Don't forget to connect the 8 pin EATX12V power plug, otherwise the system will not boot.' So is this in addition to the 24 pin, or instead of? I'm confused.

Thanks guys.

That was quick!, Cheers!

Ok, Last question then:

There are two more power connections, A large 4 pin plug EZ-Plug (Same as you would use for a fan or extra sata power), It says to use this for extra juice if xfire. Fair enough thats done.

But the last one i have not plugged in (And dont have any PSU cable left for!) is another 4 pin square plug that goes in the top of the motherboard EATX12V_1.

Any need for this?

Sorry if these are newbie questions, just dont want to get it wrong!.

Cheers

2nd edit: Well don't i feel like a muppet!, Found another 8 pin PSU cable that splits in half LOL. Will pop that in the last 4 pin slot, It can only help the cause eh..

:-)

the extra 4pin connector is for BD when overclocking.

yeah but it'll be more used for BD when overclocking

Certainly isn't the norm for conventional overclocking.
I'd be surprised if you used it for air/water. It's more for the l2n crowd, when they need more power, much like molex connectors on a board when you fill them up with PCI-E cards.
This is true of all the boards that use it, not specifically BD boards, the majority of people clocking BD will never have to touch it.

well afew forum i've seen says using the extra 4pin will ensue you get the max stable overclock for BD

Like I said, it's not the norm, we'll have to wait and see, most likely they're over analysing things.
EDIT : To test, we could always get someone to find their max stable with the extra 4 pin in, then take it out and see if it's still stable, I'd be surprised and intrigued if it wasn't.

But I know PSU's, as the OP's case has shown aren't always "fully equipped". Releasing a CPU in which people can't max due to a lack of PSU 12v 4 pin cables doesn't seem likely :p

when i get a 8150 i'll test it

my Corsair AX1200 1200w has all the extra cables

Cheers for the answers guys!

Well they are all plugged in now, The 24 + 8 + Both 4's (a lot of power!)

Very nice build too, Just waiting on BD, I hope its not too long!.

I did have enough cables, had too split the one, didn't see it at first.
