Gears of War 3 Dated (Official blah blah)

What about that one particular boss fight....? :D

Oh yes. This is definitely worth mentioning. "That boss fight", which any one who's done the campaign will hopefully have also struggled with - took 4 of us TWO HOURS to finally beat! And three of us are pretty decent at the game, with one being comically oblivious to the world around him. But it didn't take TWO HOURS (capitalised agian for EPIC SENSATIONALISM) because of him, but rather 'cause it was incredibly beat the ****er!

They offered me a £3.01 coupon presumably because I paid £38 for game + 800 msp. Very happy also - delivered on the saturday, paid £38 with 800 points.

Thats it - a rubbish 3 page "manual" and stickers, no online code needed.

Cool, thanks for the reply, I thought it was a bit bare and was getting worried.

Just spotted a clan full of lvl80 people already :o

Not to mention one of them was killing 3v1 with a longshot, in almost melee range.
Boom headshot, roll, repeat. Never saw him miss a single shot.

KB&M?

I presume lots of people will be ranking up in private by setting the game to autorun over night? 1 minute matches etc.

On what skill level, I can't think of a single boss on normal that I didn't do first time? What level are we talking about here and was he lambient of something we had seen before?

Very few games matchmake properly in the sense of putting you with similar level opponents. Assassins creed brotherhood is the only one I played that did.

We were all on Hardcore and yeah he was Lambent and new. I can't remember which act it was, maybe 3? But unless we were missing something blindingly obvious it was just a chore having to pump so many rounds in to it. We got the hints as to which part to shoot but still took an eternity. I think it's more the amount of damage he took to drop and the fact if you got pinned/dropped in a certain place you had to do it all again that made it such a pain to do rather than actual difficulty.

Anyone know how to kill a Berserker in Horde mode. Got to wave 30 last night (only on normal mind you) and 3 of them spawned and just could not kill them.

Yes they have a little glowing yellow "heart" behind their rib cage. It seems to be the only thing you can damage. And it only opens when they're charging toward you. LMAO. :D

I think thats the lambent one. The regular one has nothing like that (its a bit red in appearance, the lambent one is very yellow)

Just read on the gears wiki page that you have to heat / burn its armor so you can damage it with bullets, so either HOD, flame thrower or grenade. Fun :p

The scorcher seemed to be the only thing that hurt regular Beserkers for me in horde last night, they go a roasty red and die fairly quickly. :)

Edit* too slow :P

As benji said :) It might be reasonably easy on Hardcore by yourself or with one coop partner perhaps. I don't know if the game would scale this boss up to account for the fact there's 4 of you playing, so it could be extra HP 'cause he's on Hardcore, then 4x that as there's 4 of you or something? Either way, it was frustratingly difficult, and we really hadn't struggled with any part leading up to that! Or afterwards really!

I'm not 100% but I don't think it works like that. I think the only difference between the skill levels is how much damage you can take rather than them?

My thinking behind that is you can all be on different skill levels. One of you can be on insane and the rest on casual. I was thinking this would be an easy way to get past a tough bit on insane.

Got home from work and started the campaign with flatmate last night. Took us 12 hours give or take to polish off on Hardcore mode. Found the final boss battle very difficult for some reason (fatigue maybe) but otherwise fairly straight forward! Overall though very enjoyable game - really improved on the previous two and the plot felt pretty coherent which is a surprise! Roll on a Pendulum Wars/Emergency Day prequel.

Now on to multiplayer!

£25 in morissons if your store is outta points!

Teh amount of people leaving after a few rounds of horde is really getting annoying as it seems not to replace the players that leave :/

RE: Graphics, Alpherah has it spot on. There's several points where the fights (only played it 4 player coop) are absolutely mental. SO much going on, weapons going off left right and centre and just general carnage, and this game's framerate doesn't fluster at all. VERY well optimised, and they've definitely focused on the important details. The player character textures are spot on, and as long as you don't go upclose to examine random objects on the floor, you won't even notice.

Actually felt tearful at one point of the story though! I can't believe how cinematic and evoking they've managed to make this game :) Such an improvement on everything they've done before.

Only parts I'm not fond of are the crappy on rails shooter sections.

Good stuff then. I'm upto the stadium section atm after yesterdays playthrough. Can only spare 1-2hrs of gaming each day due to work so its a pita. Wish this was a Friday release tbh.

Yep, the engine does feel very optimised from one of the chaotic battles early on in with the big sea beastie. I didn't experience a single slow down.

been to every shop possible to buy this and nobody has it in stock, tesco has the best deal i think, but my local one hasn't got any left, they said maybe 2mor or fri,at least the xbox points and game offer doesn't end till 25th

May well be, could well have just been us doing it the wrong way then. We did only have Lancers, which I assume is the normal way of doing it? Do you have 4 players ingame during that fight even if you're only playing it two player?

Bunch of guys called D7<name>

On the topic of multiplayer, why is matchmaking so broken :(

Loads of fun to be with all sub lvl10's vs all post level 60's.

Must say ive had no issues with match making so far levels always been equal or at tops of 3 apart but its not like they have extra bonus powered weapons so it doesnt cause an issue either way.

Wow really? My local Asda had copies when I popped in there earlier. Must be short on stock in your neck of the woods :p

Gonna take my time with this so only played a little bit so far, still on Act 1 but it's already epic stuff
