Hey.

Got a 8800GTS in the living room's PC and also have a Sony Bravia that's just been fixed!

I understand the 8800gts doesn't have HDMI, but I can get a DVI>HDMI adaptor.. But what about sound?

What leads would I need to pull this off? The PC has a Realtek onboard sound if that helps.

Thanks
David

You would most likely need a stereo jack to either stereo jack or twin phono cable.

Run it from either the "front speaker/Headphone" out on the back of the PC, or the front headphone jack, to the TV's input.

If your TV is like ours, it probably has one HDMI connection that can be set to take it's sound from a phono or jack input on the rear (IIRC the Samsung we've got in the lounge has a pair of phono plugs for providing sound on the VGA and HDMI 3 input with the HDMI's sound being set via a menu option).

I think it depends on the TV but I think some can take a different audio source than the HDMI and mix it in with the video. Other than this you'd be looking at possibly a box that takes the DVI/HDMI input and the analogue stereo audio and combines them to run down the HDMI to the TV, if such a thing exists and if it's cheaper than just getting a new graphics card.

Check the tv's computer input. It will be either DVI or VGA, it will have a 3.5mm audio jack next to it to get the sound through the tv fella. So you will need the dvi/vga cable if you dont have one spare and a 3.5mm male to male cable to reach from the computer to the TV.

Or buy a cheap set of speakers. Even a 2.1 set will give better audio fidelity than the TV ;)

Thanks guys, turns out there's a HDMI with the phono jacks next to it, which are under the same channel. That must be it! Plus I have a load of spare jack to phono leads from plugging MP3 players into mixing desks :)

Now the sad thing is the TV has no stand.. will have to try sort that out if the spare part still exists!

What's the model of the TV? I've never seen a phono audio input next to HDMI.....you sure it's not an output rather than input?

Using S-Video for now until I can get a Dvi-Hdmi adapter or lead.. Got sound and picture working :) Shame S-video sucks but only have to wait a day or two.

And yep HDMI 5.. It has a few ports yes haha

All is working.

I've plugged the audio into the speaker port on the back of the system using a splitter so the PC speakers also work if turned on, to save any fiddling around with wires.

However, it seems if you have the TV and the speakers on theres a noticable echo, like the TV's audio is delayed.

Any idea on why this could be? It couldn't be because of the lead could it?

The audio through the TV probably is delayed slightly, so that it's synchronised with the picture, which will take a few ms for the TV to process and display.

Ohh that makes sense. I was worried that the audio would be out of sync with the picture, but I suppose it wouldn't be as its delaying the image anyway.
