Website to make money from?

I want to set up a very simple website which would be made up mainly of text, some photographs and later on some video. Unfortunately I have very limited knowledge of this and, as there is the possibility of having a large number of hits, I want to make the most of it and perhaps make some money from it. What would be the best way of doing this?

One of the free blogs at a site like Blogspot with Adsense? Or set up my own site and somehow find someone to advertise on it?

Are adverts even worth it? Another possibility is to use the web site to drive traffic to an affiliated YouTube channel and then make the money via the partnership program.

This is all brain-storming at the mo!
 
If it's going to have a large number of hits then I don't think this is a place where you should ask this question, you would need to pay someone :P.
 
Surely if you are going in with the intention of making money you are doing it the wrong way - come up with a good idea and if it is successful you can then look at adding in revenue streams.

It's going to a super-basic, no frills web site. Its appearance won't matter.

This kind of thing might get a lot of hits in one go and then settle down to almost nothing, so I'm looking to make the most out of it and don't want to miss the boat.
