Ok so I have a 22 inch monitor and its max res is 1680x1050

I wanna upgrade to 1080p but when the new games coem out such as bf3 I wont be able to play 1080p unless I upgrade my pc...which I also plan to do anyway.

Anyway I was gonna buy the monitor now...if I wait 2-3 months will I save any money? Make better deals?

when is the best time to buy monitor?

January sales?

There is no hurry but I really want a 1080p monitor asap as I cant dual run my hdtv and monitor at 1080p it gets annoying having to keep swithicng resolution.

Monitor prices don't move as much as other PC parts much. Pick a screen and buy imo

16:10 is better for work (more vertical space) but somewhat pricier. Not up on screens myself, bought my Dell 24" 16:9 ~3 years ago and the price of a similar screen now isn't a million miles off what I paid

Should I buy 3d or 120hz etc...?

Do I need this things..they are much more expenisve.

I was gonna do a simple upgrade just 22 to 24 and res increase.....

Do you own a very powerful nVidia setup? Do you enjoy gimmicy (IMO) 3D with daft glasses (IMO) and nausea (in my experience)? If not then no, IMO. As you may have guessed I am not a fan of 3D, but some love it ;)

As for 120Hz, do you have a very powerful system that can knock more than 60fps in modern and yet to me released games? If so then the extra may be worth it

Lots of good prices on 22 and 24" monitors you can get a 22" for about 90 quid i think and 24" about 100-130 ish. Cant say where but you can. Duno how good they are tho.

At £90?

Dire.

You look at it every time you use the PC, it's worth investing the money in something that is decent, is less likely to ship with dead pixels (and/or have a better dead pixel return policy) and preferably backed by a decent warranty.

Just thought I'd throw in a recommendation to stick with your 22 inch screen. In my opinion they're the best size, large enough to hold a lot on the screen but not too large so that they can't fit on your desk.

My advice would be spend the money upgrading your system so that bf3 will shine in 1680x1050 (much easier than in 1080p). It will look better than having to run it in medium settings because you didn't upgrade your hardware and you're trying to make it push through 17.5% more pixels.

+1.

^^^ good point

Only reason I am annoyed with 1680x1050 is

1. My monitor is old. I notice the colours and pictures look nicer on my new 40 inch HDTV.

2. the new AtI catalyst doesnt allow you to display 1080p on the 22 inch monitor the old one did.

Therefore when i want to play a game on my Pc on HDTV at 1080p I need to manually change the resolution and my 22 inch goes blank.

Also gmaes dont let you have the option to play at 1080p unless I have desktop resolution at 1080p.

What I mean is so I have resolution on 1680x1050 then I want to play game at 1080p I have to manually change settings off desktop to display only on HDTv at 1080p.

Then when I finish playing game I have to go back to settings and change to 1680x1050 again.

It gets annoying.

In the old ATI catalyst control panel I could display both monitors at 1080p though I only got 80% or so off the picture on the 22 inch monitor which I could scroll along ....now it just powers off.

Also bieng used to my 40 inch hdtv makes the 22 seem so small.

I used to have 28 inch tv and 22 inch monitor so my monitor didnt seem small.

Now I play a game on 40 inch then start playing on 22 it feels tiny.

You can't force a game to play at 1080p(1920x1080) on a monitor that only supports 1680x1050. It is impossible by technical specifications. The Ati drivers are probably readjusting the game to 1680x1050 without you noticing. So realistically you think you are playing in 1080p when in fact you are just playing in 1680x1050.
