So anyway, this might sound a bit mean...

But does anyone else get slightly irritated by all of the humanitarian adverts featuring poor starving children being put on TV right around when you're sitting down to eat your dinner?

I know what they are going through is terrible but this does annoy me a little bit, I bet it puts a lot of people off their food, a poor rotting child covered in flies, hardly the nicest thing to look at is it. I know that is obviously the point, but still.

Has anyone else thought about that or is it just me being a bit negative/cynical?

Haha, related to my post? :p

I generally take no notice of them. Unless its an advert about adopting llamas, then I'm all over it.

i record those adverts and watch them over and over again while i stuff my face. :D

(but seriously, i just turn over. i can't watch it. :o)

Yeah, tactics. Most charities that appear on TV aren't worth a *****

What I don't get, why does the UK and other countries (Governments and individuals) send so much money to Africa? Most gets squandered, some gets spent on advertising, a tiny bit gets spent on food aid. It's a plaster on a gaping head wound. Give them enough food to last long enough to have 5 kids of their own and be in famine again

IMO the UK should be spending all the money on British made equipment like vehicles, agricultural machinery, building materials and water purification systems and shipping it over. WIN :p

As I said (where this was very vaguely mentioned in the death penalty thread), I bet most of the aid money ultimately ends up in the hands of the various warlords of the African countries, unfortunately.

The UK probably ships more arms to African countries than it does aid. That's why they're starving. Switch bombs for bread rolls and there wouldn't be a problem.

Make your choice Robbo.

This is wrong on so many levels

No, most of the money ends up in the hands of the various aid companies. They are their own single biggest overhead.
