Blackberry bold battery life?

i just got my phone few days ago and i am quite concerned about the battery life.

http://i55.tinypic.com/10y07t1.jpg

between 8 & 10 am, i was using the phone lightly on the phone (10-20 mins) & the map app for 1 min.

surely this use shouldn't drain 35% of my battery life?

after that, it was mostly on standby the rest of the day where it steadily drained at 4.5% per hour.

anyone else own a blackberry? is this normal behaviour? should i phone vodahone up directly and ask them what they think?

bah problem solved;

blackberry have made a sh** phone, got a 2 year contact with piece of sh** now :@

http://crackberry.com/blackberry-bold-9900-battery-life

the problem is that the battery has a very small capacity causing it to drain very fast. whats the flippin point of having a mobile phone when you have to charge it 3 times a day to be able to use it outdoor . . .

sorry but i'm quite annoyed to the fact that i'm stuck with it for 2 years.

First of all stop getting your knickers into a twist....i have the exact same phone and i get over a days use and thats with constant use ie bbm, emailing and phone calls.

First of all, follow these tips http://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...ckberry-bold-9900-battery-issues-tips-644519/ and see how that works out...if that doesnt increase your battery life then i suggest you look at updating your firmware to 353 OS...you will find instructions on how to do it on crackberry. Also make sure no apps are running in the background ie 3rd party apps.

If after all that then look at getting vodafone to exchange the handset for a new one as you could very well have a defective device, its not uncommon for that to happen.

Yes RIM make skimped on the battery capacity, sucks balls they did but plenty of people are getting superb battery life on it...light useage and i get almost 2 days use...a few people on here have the same handset and havent complained about the battery life...calling it a **** device isnt going to solve your battery problems and stop using these stupid battery monitoring apps...they have an adverse effect on the battery...absolutely bloody useless those apps are.

It will last one day of heavy use, two days of moderate use and you may squeeze 3 days with light use.

I was a bit disappointed with the battery, given the small screen you would expect it to be better but it isn't that bad.

well... no, definitely not for me.

leaving it on standby as shown on graph makes it drop ~5% every hour thus the maximum time allowed is 20 hours if i don't use it at all.

i read some posts about 20 minutes ago, according to one guy, the packaged battery (made in japan) is crap whilst he bought one sepertely which was made in korea runs a hell of a lot better... this kinder suggests bad battery design from japan?

@ spawn, i put the battery app on to monitor the battery length as it seemed to be dieing very quickly before hand. i don't care about abusing it, i don't see how a top tier phone can only last 8 hours with minimal use, you might as well pick up a £10 phone which lasts over 24 hours which does the same job.... so yeah i think i have the right to be extremely annoyed about been ripped off very very badly. i just hope this battery trick works because it's an outrage.

all i want is a decent smart phone which will from 8am to 2 am. it's not that much to ask?

well anyway, thanks spawn, i was going to ring up them tomorrow but you've confirmed it.

should i ring up my local vodaphone or the contact support vodafone or blackberry support?

I get a day's heavy usage with travel (norwich to london) easily with my 9900. Travel absolutely kills battery life, mind, I'm guessing that's cause it's changing masts all the time?

Give it a factory reset, then test the battery. If it still drops that fast, it could be faulty.

well i've had it uncharged since 3 am and after 9 hours, the battery is 85%.

i'm now genuinely confused.

it's dropping now at a rate of 0.6%/hour while on standby.... compared to 5% yesterday. this is a significent improvement but no idea why :S

the only thing i've really changed is not having the case on? :O

It may just be the battery bedding in after a few cycles

First of all remember that this phone now has a 1.2ghz cpu whereas previous BB's had slower cpu's...is it any worse than an Android handset which suffer from crappy battery life??? No not really tbh.
And had you done some research on the phone ie through crackberry, you would have realised that the 9900 battery isnt that great. Mine is perfect, i get a good days use out of mine and thats with very hard useage.
But as i said it could very well be a faulty battery or device...so if thats the case you need to call voda support, not blackberry as they will tell you to get in touch with your network.

Yes constantly changing between masts will cause battery drain...future OS updates will further tweak the radio on the device...ive noticed a huge improvement battery wise going from 296 to 353 OS.

There you go, sometimes the battery needs to settle down...how long have you had the phone for because im sure voda give u 7days to cancel if your not happy unless you bought it instore???.

Also having apps that are constantly updating in the background wont do your battery any favours...thats why i always tell people to close 3rd party apps properly if they arent being used.

Anyhow give it a few days and see how the battery runs..if its draining fast without you doing anything then get it replaced.

well i did research thus that was why i was very angry before, the research said the battery is crap but this is my first smartphone so i can't really define crap interms of this phone. it turns out (i hope) crap mean't it only lasted a day while my definition of crap was only lasting 8 hours on minimal use.

well i'll continue monitoring my battery & hope it'll turn out fine, otherwise i could always get one of these koreon made batteries which have been reported to operate better and leave this battery as a spare/ use incase of mergency or forgetting to charge it at night time.

Well heres the thing, why not try an Android handset and see how terrible their battery life is??...fact is any phone thats running 1ghz+ cpu at the moment is going to suffer from terrible battery life FACT...of course you can take steps to alleviate that problem by turning off certain features or making sure 3rd party apps are fully closed and not running in the background.

Seriously if the battery is still giving you grief then get it replaced or exchanged...why is a phone any different to another product ie if you buy a car and it says you should 100 miles to the gallon but yet only get 5 miles to the gallon then surely logic dictates you get it fixed or replaced right??.

Ive looked at my battery in my 9900 and its a japan made one and as i said absolutely zero issues with battery life...in fact im pretty impressed that i easily get a days use out of mine with the amount of use i put it through ie 100 or so emails, lots of BBM'ing, which will cane your battery easily...a few texts and a few hrs on the phone with my missus and others and yet by the time i get home i still have over 30% battery life. My day starts at 8am and i dont finish till 10pm 6 days a week..

from earlier;

"all i want is a decent smart phone which will from 8am to 2 am. it's not that much to ask?" - what i want

"i don't see how a top tier phone can only last 8 hours with minimal use" - terrible battery life.

'my posts'

well there you go spawn, thats what i exspect from a phone, but having a 10 minute phonecall shouldn't destroy the battery by 50% really?

anyway it seems to be acting properly now. its on 15% after 31 hours which is very good, i wish it to last only 18 hours so thats ok.
