Hi

I just noticed that although the fan on my gpu is spinning when i remove the case. It will not spin up when playing games, nothing, I cant hear it spin up at all and normally it would make you deaf.

so what is the problem?

I installed catalyst driver but no help.

thanks

I think the problem is (so long as the fan is still plugged in) the fan has clearly failed. RMA like a mofo.

I take it you mean the fan is still spinning, but just slowly? Can you monitor your GPU temps and report back?

The fan is still spinning, but when playing games it does not increase rpm to deal with higher temps. For example i just played bf2 and it reached 72C with no increase in fan rpm. I cant hear it, normally it would make Big noise even if for a little while.

its very strange because if the fan is broken then why is it spinning?

thanks

I know this isn't relevant but would you say the 6990 is a beast and what frames are you getting and on what game?

Its very fast and frame rates are similar to 2x6950 at stock and has very good overclocking potential too, 950mhz easily. Only problem is that the heat produced is astronomical and requires very good ventilated case.

Don't worry until 90+, the drivers will be happy with it until that point whereby they start ramping up. Failing that use MSI Afterburner to create a custom fan profile and get them increasing speed way before that.

As Ovr said, I think you have nothing at all to worry about if your temps are only around 70C, that's pretty standard. Quite cool actually considering you have 2 GPUs jammed into your card ;)

Temps are fine, game isn't very demanding.

If you're bothered, run Furmark

Why don't you try the enable manual fan control in the CCC ? and set it to 50% , you should hear it then if its working and then raise it to 100% it should get louder again. If that is working then its fine. Or even try reinstall the drivers with the full CCC. If it ramps up manualy set it back to auto and then find reset CCC to factory default settings and apply that.
