What do you use when you aren't using an SLR?

It's fair to say that most of us on here who are serious about our Photography shoot with SLRs.

However, what do you use when an SLR is a bit much, yet you still want to have a camera with you that can take some good quality pictures?

I've been to plenty of functions where it would be great to have a nice discrete camera, as having my SLR with me wouldn't be practical.

Right now I have a small Sony Cybershot, but it's four years old now and fairly disappointing.

So I think I'm in the market for something small, which can shoot RAW with good IQ and offers good manual controls.

Obviously Micro 4/3s are big at the moment, but I'd imagine they are a little too big and kind of pointless as somebody who has invested in DSLRs and Lenses.

What do you guys use?

My phone, although if I were buying a compact I would consider the S90/S95/S100, XZ-1, G12, LX5 and Fuji x10.

As you want something small the Canon S100 would be perfect when it is available.

My mobile phone, I also often carry around my Volgtlander Vito B, ISO400 Fujifilm loaded with me when I am not bringing my DSLR out.

Same for me currently. I'm seriously considering an S95 now if the price drops a bit before the S100 becomes available. XZ-1 would also be an option but to be honest if I want smaller than my DSLR but better than my phone currently my preferred option is my FM2n and a few rolls of Delta 400.

Phone and usually the GF1 + 20mm (which ended up replacing SLR kit)

Wouldn't mind a S90/95/100 for a proper pocket compact though :)

I wonder if phones will ever get a good zoom range?

Ive not found a solution. Considered an LX5, one of the Olympus Pen m43s cameras (still too large when you count every gram), now will wait to see the Nikon 1 cameras.

Nikon Coolpix S3000 here, small enough to keep in a pocket and cheap enough that its no issue if i lose it. Produces nice images too.

My Leica M4 or my Hexar AF. Thinking of picking up an S95 (or an S100 if the IQ is better) for quick grab shots. My iP4 is just way too slow.

I'm right on the verge of selling off much of my beloved Nikon gear to move to m43, just looking for that little bit of courage to make the jump.

SLR only at the moment, am in the market for a compact though. Currently considering the Nikon p300 as it reviews well, specs well and I have brand loyalty to Nikon already from my DLSR kit. Alternatively, the Canon S95 is looking like a good contender.

Yet to use either, I shall report back once i've finished annoying the bloke in jessops and no buying anything ;)

My iPhone 4 is my "always in my pocket" camera.

but just got the XZ-1, but not have a case so its not taken out anywhere really apart from day 1!
