Having a mare finding a new office chair, my leather effect one is totally had it.Iin the last 2 years i've had 4 chairs because they all broke above the gas ram where the ram connects to the chair. I had to have a circular steel block welded to this to make it last.

Chair width will not be a problem so i don't need one of those wide chairs just a normal size chair with a higher upper weight limit.

i know you guys don't like spec me chair threads but ikea don't list the weight limits and the guy at staples didn't know his backside from his elbow.

Can't really stretch more than £150-200 as i will be probably asking family for cash for birthday next month + some cash of my own

cheers guys

he's asking advice about chairs and your having a go at his weight? Whats the point in posting if your not going to help him.

You after a leather one or a cloth type?

I don't know about chairs, but I could fashion some sort of rope and pulley system if you're interested. I also do cranes.

I've never had any problems with chairs, at my heaviest was 22st 12, I'm just under 19st now and am finding my Ikea Markus very comfortable. I'm 6ft 4 too, at 22st people used to think I weigh 16st, I WISH!

I've never had a chair break on me though, maybe it's cause my feet are always on the floor taking some of the weight?

Also, if I remember rightly there was a new chair standard brought in in 2010 which meant chairs had to support up to 300lbs (21st 6lbs), canat remember what standard that was though so it's not much help!

i'm not too fussed TBH just don't want leather effect again as it cracks really easily. Must be black tho none of this lime green or blue stuff.

IIRC the gas ram had to take 25 stone but there is no defined limit on the weight the actual chairs can take, thats upto the manufacturer to decide and publish.

The g/f's brother is 6ft 4 and considerably heavier than 19st, one day he came to our house and asked if he could use the computer. well about 5 mins after he sat down the whole back of the chair broke off and he fell backwards and his legs kicked the underneath of the desk sending everything flying lol

The standard I was thinking about was

BS 5459 :2000 Performance requirements and tests for office furniture: Office pedestal seating for use by opersons weighing up to 150 kg and for use up to 24 hours a day, including type approval tests for individual components.

If it has that standards attached to it you should be good to go.

LOL i'm just naturally big 6'4" . no one ever believes i'm 19 stone and say i look about 13-14 stone, even the doctor was shocked when she last weighed me

I'm 6ft 6 or 7 inch and 15/16 stone. And I'm skinny. My mate is 6ft 8 or 9 inch and 18 stone and built like a brick **** house (he's a journeyman heavy weight). You're 6ft 4 and 19 stone. I think people are just trying to be nice when they say you look 13-14 stone. Unless you're built like a forward prop.
