Those thinking of getting and using it as a remote don't.

If you have never used a touch screen remote they are a pain i bought a harmony 1000, and it become very old very quick, as with a remote the tactile feeling of the buttons is so much better.

Also it will drain the battery quite quick keep using it as a remote. Although not much of an issue as you have a charger, but more of an issue for long term length of the battery.

That's not true! I've had a good 9 hours from mine today using it all day for you tube / web / remote testing and gaming

What i mean is if you are going to be using it as a remote you are never really going to be switching it off. Surely this can not be a good thing in a device which i presume has a sealed in battery.

And my point stand about it will become a pain to use as a remote.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking the device overall, but i would not be buying thinking using it as a remote will be a good feature on the long term, sure it will be fine for every now and again.

Saw one of these in Purple-shirt-land over the weekend - complete with rep who had a good go at selling me one.......but I am already a happy Transformer owner (FWIW, the Sony rep didn't know what the Transformer was, and asked me to show him :p ....which lead me to pointing him about 5 devices down the display unit, instore)

Anyway, back on topic - I thought it was a lovely device, and was really impressed with the smoothness of operation; I often find my Transformer 'stutters' or similar between homescreens, or there cna sometimes be a slight jitter when opening up the Apps menu....nothing annoying, per se, but noticeable - nowhere to be seen on the Sony.
Of course, this could be down to my Transformer being a few months old, and loaded with widgets and so forth.....

Nice piece of kit, and if I was currently in the market, would be likely right towards the top of my list.

Now, how long for Playstation Suite (or whatever) to hit other devices......albeit FPSE and PSX4Droid seem pretty reasonable so far.....

So you erm... fiddle with your remote all the time you're watching things?

Don't know about you, but I turn my AV equipment on, choose my channel, then watch TV unto the programs I want to watch finish... which lasts 30 mins to 4 hours. Do you use a remote constantly, even when you don't need to? No? Ahh, didn't think so. ;)

Light-hearted sarcasm aside, you obviously do not need to be using the touchpad every 2 minutes when using it as a remote. I use my phone for the same thing via a Wi-Fi connection, which uses more battery, and it's not an issue. For a tablet, a low-power IR connection used once or twice an hour (in addition to however much you are using the pad for other things, which will of course determine battery life) isn't going to be a problem.

Well yes i do as I'm normally working whilst watching programs, so quite a lot of volume up and down, pause, play etc.

Trust me touch screen remotes are a pain to use over long periods, they look great and fun for about a week. Then you realise how much you just can not be bothered keep looking at the panel every time you want to do something.

I like the idea of the remote, not sure if this has been asked but can it also control a PS3 ?, it would be cool if they seemlesly intigrated the use of bluetooth with the remote.

I really think Sony scored a serious own goal releasing this in the midst of HP Fever.. What was it a politician said at 9/11 "a good day to tell bad news"

I think Sony should have waited as it seems like a nice tablet. Did none of you guys who got one do that overnight queue to get a free TV?

I did think about it, as I am with walking distance of that Sony Center at work but I didn't fancy queuing or carting a TV around on the tubes. :D

Awesome, this tablet is excellent.

I am really glad I picked this over the ipad 2 :) So nice to hold in your hand and everything seems very fluid.

Mrs. is also loving it, so I probably won't get a look in now.

Just picked up the official S tablet cradle and screen protector yesterday, ill try and get a few snaps uploaded shortly.

I choose this over the Galaxy tab 10.1
After spendng a few days with it I have to say it was the right decision.
The Sony is so comfortable to hold and the screen is beautiful. Everything is silky smooth and I got to say that the pinball game that comes preinstalled is very addictive.

Revival time.

Probably the main tablet im interested in and although this is a difficult question to answer, do you reckon Sony Centres are flexible on price/putting a deal together?

ie chuck in accessories etc
