Neutrons: Faster than light?

Then those scientists are in the wrong profession.

Would pose the same question as you because if you think those at the top argue on anything other than ego quite often then you are going to be very disillusioned there. There is a well know physicist and also an evolutionary biologist that fulfil those criteria.

All I'm saying is that it's never a wise idea, in science, to say that something is impossible. If it appears to have happened then we need to check whether it actually did happen, and then find out how, and then find out why we were wrong the first time.

Indeed they said powered flight would be impossible! I'm guessing when it comes that FTL travel (or just FTL particles) do so in a way that doesn't violate relativity.

I'm happy as long as scientists keep doing what they do and being wrong a lot of the time. As long as politicians and religious types keep their noses out though...

So?

Its fine to respect them, but in no way is it good to irrationally follow them, they aren't celebrities, look at the Russian? Ukrainian? guy that helped solve the Poincare conjecture, he didn't care for such things and i respect him even more for that.

Yet because he doesn't accept the million dollar prize, he is apparently stupid to some people.

And where exactly did anyone say they should be followed?

Amazing news.

I hope it isn't true though, for one thing I spent quite a while on here a couple of days ago convincing people nothing can travel faster than light. This makes me and my degree look pretty dumb

:(

I think we're going to need to edit our posts with comments about it not being true for neutrinos :p.

Personally I'm extremely sceptical. Given the enormous difficulty involved in detecting neutrinos any number of things could cause a systematic error. I hope it's verified though, plenty of exciting research ahead if so :).

Remember just because a theory makes sense or a model works doesn't mean its giving us a true picture of reality and what's actually happening, for instance there's no evidence time exists in a dimensional sense (past and future don't exist in the present) or that space curves under mavity (it just looks like it) etc...

It's not really a suprise is it.

We know **** all in the grand scheme of things.

Until someone can answer why the universe exists in the first place, the jigsaw is not done.

Now, whos going to be first to build that time travel machine.
