Is there any way to see other people's medals and ribbons instead of just the basic stats like kills, deaths etc?

Yep, tap the trigger, dont hold it.
Only use it at close to meduim distance.
Blind firing eliminates kick and is quick to down enemies, other wise when firing you have to compensate by holding the aim stick down to avoid shooting the sky.
The Retro Lancer defiantly has it's place in the Campaign mode, especially with Lambent Humans. On Multiplayer though I think it's inadequacy against the Chainsaw Lancer is just the fact that you can easily get a guaranteed one shot kill if you manage to charge somebody down.
It's so much better this time, got to wave 30 on normal today but sadly had to leave.
I like beast too, that needs more content

what happened to the drop in feature?

I've only rented this so far as I didn't really get into GoW 2 but I've enjoyed everything I've played thus far with this. Horde last night was a real laugh and genuinely tense in places, I''ll certainly play more of that. Not sure about a Season Pass yet though 
New maps, new modes and more single player content. I want to know who the big bald guy is supposed to be on the pass advert, it is supposed to be old Marcus?

I actually thought Beast Mode had you playing against real Humans, taking it in turns, kind of Left 4 Dead style. So I think I was disappointed when I first played it. I couldn't seem to find a game when I tried a couple of hours ago.
I've a feeling that will come in the future, Wyrdo and I said the same as you earlier. That mode would be awesome.

Got say say I'm a bit dissapointed with it. Things didn't even really start to get going until a fair way through Act 2.
BAD
I know some will say 'Gears isn't about the story' but now that this is the third game, i was expecting more. I get the impression a large amount of the plot was cut out to be placed into the novels, of which, i've only read Jacinto's Remnant. I wouldn't even have known who Bernie was if i hadn't have read that novel.
Most of the plot was incredibly predictable, which is why i didn't care when certain character deaths occured, even an idiot could see them coming a mile off. The ending i also felt was a bit of an anti-climax.
The big set pieces/boss battles didn't really wow me. The invasion of the hollows at the start of GOW 2 was fantastic, the Leviathan attacking the Ship...not so much.
The characters are a walking bunch of cliches. This really detracts from making a connection with them. to borrow a yankie term, it's characters are very Jock/Gangsta
GOOD
Gameplay wise, i really enjoyed it. Some of the new weapons are nice, and certainly pack a punch.
Nobody can complain that technically, it's an awesome looking game, i really liked the Pompei esque level (forgot the name) and the underwater section.
If i were to sum up the GOW trilogy in succinct terms...
Gears of War is to gaming, what the Michal Bay Transformers trilogy is to movies. They both run on style of substance. Consequently, they have great set pieces and spectacle but everything else suffers because of it. Style over Substance. You can enjoy them if you switch off the rational parts of your brain (don't get me started on Gears plot holes, they'd be more plentiful than grub holes) but you find yourself thinking, what if they'd gone that little bit further, and invested in the plot/script/characterisation.
Very entertaining, very enjoybale, but not awesome.
Will be trying the arcade mode next i think, see how that changes things up.

Is match making borked? The only game I seem to get into easily is War Zone and yes my NAT is Open!

max your sensitivity and try to aim the shots rather than hipfire, at least that's helped me a little bit
