Booyaka's Garage to Family Entertainment Suite Thread

One thing I've always wondered why people put TVs so high on the wall?

In our living room, you walk in and the TV looks to be far too low, but then you sit down and it's at perfect eye level. It's one thing i've noticed whenever i go round to friends houses, you always end up looking up at the TV and I end up getting a sore neck by the end of a film.

Yeah i can't understand why anyone would want a tv too far above or below eye level, also im not really a fan of wall mounting but can understand why some prefer it, makes more sense in a cinema setup like this.

apologies for the distinct lack of updates - busy weekend with family stuff and busy week at work.

Anyway - latest pictures.

new door fitted - still requires the frame etc to be fitted.

Lovely smooth plastered walls - "like glass" as described by the plasterer himself!

Downlighters all fitted and working.

TV recess all pastered with cables/plugs in place for TV.

Cabling will pop out the side wall and staight into the cabinets that will fit in either side of the built out TV recess. Basically no cables will be seen.

Then the scary bit - cutting out the wall to fit the recessed speakers in! Monitor Audio provide an excellent cardboard guide that sticks to the wall and then just draw round it. Cutting into freshly plastered walls was a bit scary but 4 holes in each corner of the marked area and then a good dry wall/plasterboard hand saw made light work of it.

Test to see if it fits! - YES it does!!!

Close up of speaker in place - taken them back out for now whilst I work on the rest of the cabling/flooring/painting etc.

Tomorrow night - will get the other 2 holes cut and sorted. Will aim to get TV bracket up on the wall if possible.

Heading away next week for a few days but hopefully flooring will get fitted monday by joiner (solid oak flooring), painting will be the next thing and then installing all the goodies thereafter!

Cool. What do the speakers sit on once they are in?

nothing - they have a frame around them (the white bit) and this has clamps attached to it that when you tighten the screws, tightens against the plasterboard from the back.

It's very clever and very simple.

You can see from this image the orange clips/clamps that basically turn out the way when you screw the screws from the front - if that makes sense.

apologies for the lacking of updates.

Been away for a few days with the family so time to update. progress has slowed a little as the flooring was ordered and took a few days to arrive and also a few days to "acclimatise" to the room.

All holes sucessfully cut into the roof/wall for the speakers. Checked all the fittings and they are all good to go.

At this stage I needed to get the tv bracket and TV on the wall - Sky engineer is coming on Tuesday so need to get the bracket on the wall asap. Joiner did a good job of putting in some wood struts between the stud work behind the plaster board so that I could potentially screw the bracket straight into the plasterboard/wood behind etc without to much faffing around.

Needed to give the plasterwork a quick coat of cheap white emultion so that it would be done behind the bracket - the rest will be done with a good proper coat or 2 once i get the chance. Room is going to be fairly plain to start with - mainly just white walls for now as due to missus being on crutches, we have not been able to get out and about to find colours/wallpaper/furniture at this stage.

Gratuitous shots of the PS59D6900 mounted on the wall!

A very quick hook up the blu-ray player and all is good!!!! picture quality is superb and very impressed from a very quick viewing. Now all covered up again to allow for completion of flooring in the next couple of days and then lots of painting of walls and ceiling before rest of kit gets sorted out.

how does it disappoint?

I've been finishing the floor yesterday and painting 2 coats all day today.

Apologies that i haven't managed to get the camera out in the last 2 days!
