I just checked my bank balance and realised I had around £900 more then I did a few days ago. I then realised my Apple order (which was on my statement, and money had been taken out of my account) was not on my statement at all now :s

Could there be any reason for this? (and yes the order was delivered on Wednesday...)

Edit: And there it goes again

Depends how honest you are now either sit and wait it out to see if it's just an error or be truthful and contact your bank to see whats going on. Not with santander by any chance are you?

Just don't spend the money it might come back out after a couple of days, i've had it happen with santander once a couple of months ago granted it was only for 9.99. I'd ring the bank and find out whats going on tho they should be able to tell you if it's a refund/bank error.

This, i went to Makro last month and spent about £50, i checked my statement the next day, and sure enough, it was showing on there. Cue nearly 2 weeks later, i check my bank before i go and purchase something to make sure i had enough funds, purchased said item, next day, check my bank online, sure enough, i had now gone overdrawn as Makro came out and i was charged £25 there and then! I phoned to clarify this, they said the makro transaction had appeared on my statement as an authorised purchase, but nothing was taken from my account (basically, they took the money for 2-3 days and put it back in my account). So basically, my bank screwed me over.

That isn't all though, i got another £25 charge this Wednesday for exactly the same transaction, when i phoned to enquire, they pretty much said they could do that when they felt like it! I've since written a complaint to my bank and am awaiting a reply, if i have no joy, i won't be hesitating on moving my bank elsewhere, i'm sure they'll lose more than £50 from me in the long run.

Ok thanks guys. I'll leave it till like mid next week then ring my bank. I had a automatic call a couple of days ago, fraud alert and it went through my last 5 transactions and I had to confirm they were me, the order was on that aswell so

Chances are they will take a while to charge you.
I bought stuff from Ikea a while back, took till the end of the month for it to appear on my account.

i imagine the initial amount showing was the pre-auth where the bank tells the retailer "yes there is enough funds to complete the transaction and we'll allocated those to the transaction". at which point though no funds are physically taken though, normally this is done at the point of dispatch for mail order.

id also check with apple to make sure the authorisation on the funds hasnt bounced too.

This could have happened if you've been on a spending spree or something the bank sometimes thinks oh noes fraud and takes the money back. Usually tho it stops the transaction there and then. Santander seem to do it an awful lot when you buy something for exactly £1 so if using card i always make sure it's an obscure amount especially if it's a steam purchase.

Good point to raise actually if my bank messed up and reversed a steam charge then steam cancelled my acount and wouldn't give it me back would the bank be liable to pay for my loss?

Was that for the rest of the £50?

Sounds like it's the fund authorization thing that happens with credit cards when you pay retailers who haven't shipped your stuff yet. They just lock the amount and then take it when they ship your stuff.

All the more reason to use a credit card perhaps?

Had a similar thing happen with my credit card too though :p

Ordered a new laptop, checked my card statement and it was showing up there. A week or two later it was gone. Took them a few months after the laptop was delivered for it to show up again on my statement.

Very weird, maybe it's a laptop thing :)

I check the balance often and never see disappearing payments. I only see the balance increase (funds check) then a few days later the transaction appears.

it will go in a few days, it happens with apple it drops off and comes back 3 days later, does that to me and i bank with nattiest

My natwest account has been doing some funny stuff over the past couple of weeks. Items on the statement appearing/disappearing, stuff showing up late. Funky.
