Oh come on !! I know all they can do is remake films these days..but really???

There is only one reason behind something like this and that is money as the ideas ran out a while ago. One really should not have to say leave well alone but I fear no one will hear.

scarface was a remake of scarface anyway pretty much.

anyway remaking films is easy and there doing it all the time now... some films are barely 10year old and remakes are coming .....

It's not a lack of ideas, it's the industry being unwilling to try new things when they know they can churn out remakes and people will pay to see them.

They will be remaking Casablanca next, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Then a remake of Platoon starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Jason Statham :D

Why? Because the audience keeps buying into it I s'pose. Is there any legitimate way to stop them? No, because theatres are locked into distribution deals for these movies (afaik) and seem to be making a steady buck on them.

When people en masse decide to venture for more Independent Cinema or foreign releases, things might change. But that will never happen :(

i don't care about remakes. nothing changes the originals and contrary to popular belief, it's not compulsory to watch the new version.

The majority are too lazy for movies with subtitles.

As a young 'un, I hated subtitles, then when i finally decided to watch foreign movies a whole new world of cinema opened up to me. I'm now at a point where I seek out foreign movies over regular US tripe.

I'm quite similar to that, I've found that some of the best movies I've seen are foreign ones with subtitles, for example, Pans Labyrinth, Rec, Orphanage, Girl with the dragon tattoo, Battle Royale etc.

EXACTLY.

There's also the fact that I wouldn't watch old stuff like Scarface or The Godfather (I've tried) because of the old style acting but I would watch remakes of them.

Well, Lady Gaga has remade the same song 10 times now and they still get No.1.

I don't blame the industry, I blame the masses of idiots who pay money for this rubbish. If I could exploit the mases with generic trash and make easy money I would do it in a flash.

Unfortunately, more original and interesting films, games and songs make considerably less money than generic, boring seen it all before crap.

The good thing is, for those who actually do enjoy the more interesting things, at least there is still enough money in that to allow people to do it. And luckily there are plenty who would rather make something original and earn 10x less.

I went to see a band a couple of weeks back play to less than 500 people and they did electronic music which Gaga and the rest of them can only dream of. Sad really.

Remakes are usually awful. They are even doing Girl with Trilogy in Hollywood. What's wrong with just having a subtitled movie? Crazy.

I hope the remake of Scarface is better than the original.

Scarface is an appallingly bad film.

lol i'd have to agree. I can't stand it. My mates and girlfriend say I have no taste but I watched most of it once and really can't recall being that bored with many other movies

This is also true for The Godfather, I can't understand how a film that puts you to sleep inside 20 minutes can be so good unless you're an insomniac

I rate Scarface higher, I at least watched the whole film :)
