I remember reading about this and scaring myself stupid with it when I was in the library at school.

When I read this article I thought it was a joke at first!

Not a joke.

Apparently it fits with other cases, where the body is virtually completely destroyed and no trace of the cause can be found...very strange indeed.

Not at all. It's well documented and tested. Nothing spotsneouse about it though. A slow very hot burn. Fuled by the body's fat and a wick. Usually something like denim clothing.

They need to learn how to consult books better.

That was my thought as well, particularly when the article says; He said Professor Bernard Knight, in his book on forensic pathology, had written about spontaneous combustion and noted that such reported cases were almost always near an open fireplace or chimney. Individual dosing by the fire place, hot coal sparks, lands on clothing, person goes up like a christmas tree.

I remember watching a program about this years a go, one story was about a homeless guy sitting at the bottom of a metal fire escape stair way, next to one of them big barrel fires. Lit a cigarette and burst into flames, his burnt body was found in the sitting position on the stairs.

That shouldn't be funny but who remains in the seated position when they're burning alive?

"Man, this burning smarts but damn, this cigarette is so damn good".

.

This Buddist monk did, whilst protesting against persecution during the Vietnam War.

Read about this years ago when I was still in school, I even had a book about mysterious happenings that had a few pages on it and included pictures of such victims, one was a guy that burnt whilst sitting on his toilet, so no nearby fires etc... all that was left of his person, was the lower part of one leg, complete with his slipper still on it???

Edit, here is the exact picture from my old book...

Smoking on the toilet and making a really smelly dump.
