Ok so as an example i have many games on both systems, bfbc2, mirrosrs edge, saints row 2..etc

So when I play bfbc2 on ps3 the resolution is prob 1280x720 or in fact less?

However, when I set my games to a resolution like 1280x720 or less and play on Pc they look really bad worse than PS3.

Is this my imagination. It seems to me when I play a 720p game on ps3 if I play at simialr resolution on my pc it loos terrible. Is that just cuase Im used to playing at high reoslution on pc and my mind is playing tricks?

When you set the screen res did you goto settings and make sure all the other settings are on high and AA is set?

If you set that res and have all settings on low, it will look worse. You need to up the other settings in the menu. Are you using the same screen for both PC and PS3? PC screens run and look best at the native res.

If you're playing your PC through a monitor then anything but native res will look fairly bad. HD TVs do a much better job of down scaling lower res material, they have built in tech to do it.

so does ps3 have high details and AA and AF?

oh really?

On a PC 1280x1024 will be displayed in 1280x1024, on a console it will be upscaled to the TV's native res but that will never look as good as a PC's native res.

You ever gone up close to your tv when playing a console game?

Prepare to gouge your eyes out...

welly my hdtv is 1080p but when I play ps2 or ps2 games it plays at lower reoslution not upscaled

It is scaling the image to fit your screen, if, for example a PS2 is VGA res (640x480) it would be displayed as a small box rather than filling the screen if it was not scaled (1:1 pixel ratio).

right I have option to zoom to full screen, it makes graphics more blocky and fuzzy but ok if you sit far away.

..................what?

A PC 'Monitor' will display 1280x1024 at 1:1 pixel mapping if told or will scale it to the panel if told either from the panel itself, or from the graphics adapter at driver level.

A TV will display 1280x1024 at 1:1 pixel mapping if told or will scale it to the panel.

A TV is a Monitor with a tuner in it/other 'TV' orientated features. It has a resolution the same as a monitor does. (This is ignoring old CRT technology of course)

As far as as the details go they might as well be the same thing. What you experience is entirely down to you and what options you have available. A PC Monitor can do scaling or not, a TV can do scaling or not.

A TV is not necessarily any better at up-scaling than a Monitor is and visa-versa. How do you think a PC monitor displays a Full-Screen resolution that is lower than it's native resolution? (Hint - It scales it)

Simple, you sit further away from your TV so cant see how bad it actually is :p

but the higher the resolution the closer you can sit and it looks good.

Soemthng like 4feet is ideal distance from 40 inch 1080p sit further away and you lose details, sit closer and pic looks blurry?

720p ideal distance on 40 inch is 7feet

Go and play your ps3 game and sit as close to your tv as you would on a pc monitor. It will look horrible.

depends which game

some only output at like 560, some 720 and few at 1080p

I find sitting on my chair about 5-6 feet away is ideal for 1080p games 7-8ft for 720p gmaes.

when I lie on my bed at 12-15ft I lose a lot off detial.

When I sit too close for sure I can see jagginess on edges etc

I kind of get what some people are getting at.

PC games do seem to have a marked difference when not running at native res compared with consoles.

They just look ... odd if not run at their native res. And consoles seem to cope much better.

Wonder if its just down to viewing distances and the fact you never notice that same "oddness" on consoles.
