Money

thats fine mate, at the end of the day the italians are probably pretty poor at the job but the backing they have its phenominal, regardless of who you work for, just before I left they were plans to buy technip, ss7 and acergy in the down turn as they had streched them selfs.

Working with saipem really depends on which department you work with unfort.

They did completely buy out Snamprogetti, and yes they have a lot of backing, and thats one of the reasons why they manage to get away with such bad practice, especially on the job I am working on (Kashagan) because ENI/Agip KCO are the main contractors and theyre basically all in each others pockets and getting away with murder. Im actually getting annoyed just thinking about it so will stop now.

Yeah thats fine, I could tell you about the companies siapem and eni have bankrupt but thats a different conversation.

At the end of the day they are the biggest contractor in the world regardless of practice and is why they only go for EPIC jobs. I know people hate them and they hardly ever pay and also pay **** wages but they are still a good company to work for if you get in with them.

S7? becarful going up the walkways on the semisub legs lol.

Depends if they let us look around, atm i'm not sure i'll see outside the accomodations block except for when we arrive and depart via the helipad.

On the thing for a week so hopefully we will get a tour between meetings!

We've also been on the Kashagan gravey train for the past few years...... But doing good work i must add!

Lol at the Saipem hate :) I've heard some 'interesting' stories from colleagues about the way they do things, particularly the guys on the 7000. Incidentally said vessel is currently parked down the way from my apartment. Quite impressive I have to say. Thialf is here playing with some barges too and I managed to get both of them in the same shot. Quite cool I thought. Quite sad most would probably think :) Saipem are installing the template on one of the projects I'm working on - can't wait to start interfacing with them - sounds like it could be an 'experience'.

Now I think we must be OT enough.

Tbh the only reason the S7000 is laid up is due to the nick name of the deathstar, the boat is a death trap which they bought of another italian comanpy. The last project which went wrong (medgaz) which I was working on was due to a computer failure which killed 7 people when it dropped at 64tonne piece of pipe through the welding station.

One of the things I will say is this happens with every company just some hide it better, like you only hearing about 10% of the stuff which happens on the s7000

Well all the ROV stuff was designed by a guy called bob stronach, and I am not kidding this took him 3+ years to get right :-/

You could quite easily abuse some contracts and string them out, unfortunately that's a great way to get a bad reputation, shocked some contractors manage to get work.

I find I'm particularly good with money, tight as hell.

Don't think I'll know what to do with it all when I start getting a decent wage.

Have been in that situation/stride of life, they're good times, but watch out as people will ride you for your money.

As you age you will learn to see the people that will use you.

I'm currently saving for a house deposit, so am trying to save everything I can.

Normally however, I spend what I think I need to, so I wont think twice about spending an extra £100 to get something a lot better (say a better GPU), but I wouldn't buy the top-end one, which is £400 more, but only 20% better.

I do have mad ideas for projects and spend silly(ish) amounts of money on them. I am definately better than I was when I was on about 1/3 of the money I am now, when I was 18/19, then I'd spend tonnes on utter crap. :/

I am a bit like you OP on the money front.

I have no interest in saving money at the moment, I'll always invest it in my business.

My attitude is kinda weird too. I'm always trying to grow the amount I can afford to lose on one venture. Started at £100, to £1000 and hitting £10,000 now. Think it will be a while before I hit £100k but mission will be complete the day I can afford to lose £1m. :D

'Afford' to lose is probably the wrong word, 'prepared' to lose is better.

I'm exactly like Fox on this, especially when it comes to having to get "the deal".

Shopping with me for anything must be an absolute nightmare, I check eeeeeeeeeeverything to make sure I've got the absolutely right thing and there's no better deal. I find it very difficult to buy things on an impulse, my urge to research and seek out that "best deal" is too strong.

Also, just because...

I spend money if I need or want something but will never, ever spend it for the sake of it and will never blow it on anything less than the best deal I can find. I also like to have a suitable amount built up at all times because you never know what the future might hold and what opportunities you could miss because your life is full of material items you didnt really want or you've spent it all on booze and your savings balance is nil.
This is very much my philosophy too.

I'm 20 and hate spending money, unless its something I absolutely want, which is little. Being at uni means I am constantly thinking that the money I spend isn't my money, just money the government has given me, and I'm going to have to pay it back.

It also doesn't help that I'm lazy.I'd rather work less hard and spend less, than work harder and spend more.
