Dad looking at a car, need expert opinions

Fixed:

Seriously - it's from a dealer:
GET RID OF THE CHUFFING THING
:) I'm trying my best to persuade him, i think we're almost there persuading him because he's gone all quiet and introverted, i think he's realised that this thing's a lemon.

Im really struggling with the idea that this is anything but a WUM.

Unfortunately, this isn't a windup. i've posted pictures of the car earlier in the thread which you can see. i can post pictures of my electrical bodge-job if you like.

Quick bump, need to ask this question;

We're about to leave to try and return the Lemonmobile, my mum's postulated a plan for if the dealer doesn't want to give us a refund for the car;

What if we give the car back to the dealer, get a receipt for returning the car to his custody and then call the Bank and ask for a credit-card chargeback because the car wasn't as described and that it has been returned with written proof?

I'm about to leave but will be taking my phone and laptop with me to check for replies.

Okay, Dealer has the car now. i tried to push for a return and refund but my dad folded like a wet towel and the dealer was having none of it, presumably because of my dad's weakness of character.

Dealer says he'll book the car into the garage on monday morning to fix the faults "as soon as possible"... i'm thinking it'll be at least a week to hunt down the electrical gremlin that's causing the headlight problem and (i forgot to mention earlier) fault with the rear window demister.

I'm having a really bad feeling about this car now, who knows what sort of electrical problems will crop up that will require complete stripdowns to fix? :eek: *eurgh*

Sorry guys, i should have listened better to your advice and tried to be more persuasive with my dad before he even bought the damn thing.

Maybe we weren't clear about this earlier...

REFUND

:p

I've bought E30s in far better specification and condition for under half that. A third, in some cases!

Admittedly they were all four-doors but then, hell, more practical!

I am honestly used to people posting on here about completely stupid ideas, us explaining why they are stupid, us getting flamed and them doing it anyway and proving us right but seriously this is a whole new level of fail.

Go back to the dealer as I'm sure he'll have a special paint treatment, if your dad can get that for around £400 then he's done well.

If only OcUK had a facebook-esque "like" button. Because this post would be getting it right now :p

REFUND

:p
I tried, The dealer point-blank refused to give a refund.

And then some...the dealer sold it to him as a "immaculate" and its proved to be anything but that. :o
Correct. that was one of the points i raised when trying to get a refund but the dealer was having none of it.

Indeed it is. i honestly hope that if i'm this stupid when i'm making the decisions, that one of you guys will come to my house and slap some sense into me.

I can't see how he can reject the car on the basis of the faults found so far. Especially as immaculate is an opinion.

Really? Let's think about what's emerged since the car was paid for:
- there's a mileage discrepancy
- two faults that would be MOT failures.

The car was sold as FSH. The mileage problem means it's not as described. Leaking fuel tank puts it in unsatisfactory condition and unsuitable for purpose.

I would have every confidence in rejecting the car under the sale of goods act. If it gets as far as small claims court might need some additional info. Maybe a report from a mechanic on the faults.
