FREE John le Carré audiobook downloads from the Guardian - URGENT!

These MP3s are not protected by means of DRM. The details appear(ed) in the relevant copies of the Grauniad. However, if you Google the book title and the word 'Guardian', you will find a link to them.

If you follow this link, at the bottom, you will see 'Terms & Conditions'. I guess that the significant one is
7. This offer is open to all Guardian readers based in the United Kingdom and ROI who are over 18 years of age.
If you aren't happy that you satisfy this requirement (e.g. you are a Daily Wail reader, are a tax exile or are aged under 18) - you definitely should not download the audiobooks ;)

Cheers stockhausen, that's a great offer and I'm looking forward to listening to these, except 'The Constant Gardener' because it's pap.

It's one of the few book-to-film conversions where the film is better than the book!

At least the rest, excluding 'Our Kind of Traitor' (which I haven't read yet), are all classic Le Carré so I know they're good. :D

Thank you stockhausen.

Edit - These are now in my download library, reckon I'll be able to download them after midnight? I assume I can, as they're in the same place that paid for downloads are saved..

I have been downloading some of these this week, and received an email from AudioGO the company handling the download:

"Although the unique codes for these titles are only valid for a week, once added to your download library there is no time limit for accessing your downloads."

So once you have them in the library, you can access them any time after the Guardian offer finishes.

Just as well because a few of the downloads borked for me earlier in the week due to server issues, and I had to use several attempts before they arrived ok.

Fantastic listening :)

Edit: If you can get hold of the BBC dramatisations from a year or so ago they are definitely worth it, Simon Russell Beale heads a brilliant cast as Smiley.

Fair enough, I didn't read all the T&C, assuming someone would save me the bother ;) It worked!

I'm not a Guardian reader so I won't download them. I hope everyone who has bleated on about the T&Cs is a real Guardian Reader otherwise you're in breach...

Cheers Stockhausen!

Absolutley, I would have recommended radioarchive.cc unfortunately it has been hacked/DDos'd up the yinyang lately... I was wondering why, now I have a fair idea.

£100 for the complete Smiley Collection from AudioGo or completely free captures from freeview...hmmmm...
It's a shame as RA.CC is a great resource for preserving long lost shows captured from tape etc.

Agreed - they were absolutely brilliant.

I haven't seen the latest cinematic version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy which sounds good but I do have the DVD of the original BBC TV adaptation featuring Alec Guinness as George Smiley. If you get a chance, I would recommend watching it, it is very dark, with a fantastic cast.

The Spy who came in from the cold with Richard Burton is also pretty good.

A bit of a non sequitur I grant you, but John le Carré and Graham Greene are two brilliant authors :)

ps - I agree also about radioarchive.cc

Getting "in on an offer" and redistributing/hosting someone's intellectual property are two very different things. :)

I've got that set and they are very good. This is icing on the cake. :)
