Doctor Who

Not the best episode. It was ok. While i'm not a Corden fan, he didn't irritate as much as his last appearence.

Doctor Who will never have the quality of writing that you see from some of the better known sci fi series. I find that the good episodes only come along once in a while.

The only really decent episodes this season that were' serious have been written by Moffat and Neil Gainman (who also wrote an episode for Babylon 5).

It's a kid's show, we might all wish it was more but accept it, and enjoy it for what ti is. It still beats 99% of the other tripe on a Saturday night.

Tonights was an ok episode. Not the best by a long shot but it was ok.

I have determined that I really enjoy the overall story arc but the little stories in between the main story this year have been pretty shocking.

The first two in Utah were good, the Curse of the black spot was ok but I think one reason I wasn't super keen is that i'm not a massive fan of piratey things.

The Doctors wife was really good, really enjoyed that one.

Now the Rebel Flesh and the Almost People must be two of the worst episodes ever. Too much talking and not enough happening.

Demons Run was ok but again, not much really happened it seemed.

After the break, I enjoyed Let's kill hitler but mainly because of the story arc.

Night Terrors and the Girl who waited, didn;t like either of those.

Tonight's as before, was ok, ending was great so looking forward to the next episode.

I'd love to see them have a proper story spread over 4, 5 or 6 episodes. Army of Ghosts is one of my favourite episodes of New Who but it was badly let down by the second part Doomsday. That episode felt so rushed and had 3 or 4 episodes worth of content crammed in to what ended up being a pathetic mess.

Obviously one off episodes mean you can continually come up with new ideas and you don't run the risk of losing viewers if they miss an episode but something needs to change for me.

So would I, I'd love to see Doctor Who grow up and do a proper story arc.....but some have argued it wouldn't be DW any more. I disagree, but regardless it's not what the BBC want it to be and it wouldn't work with the target audience they want.

Which is slightly retarded, given that the old show used to have large stories spread across multiple episodes.

There is an overall arc anyway, it's just very subtle. It's miles better than "Let's just sneak the words Bad Wolf into every episode".

once again a potential for a brilliantly dark and grown up episode dicked away for hollow feel good deus ex machina crap. :(

Just once can't we have a program where everything isn't rainbows and happy thoughts?

i wish they cut out the first 35 minutes and just left the end bit with River song and the silence or whatever they are called.

At least next week is back to the juicy stuff

Makes me want to watch the devil episode again.

Actually, I hope they do a follow up on that someday, a lot of questions asked and not many answered.

I thought that was a poor episode. My problem with this season of Doctor Who isn't the acting or actors, just the dross writing.

Now I love the last series or two, much better than the end of Tennants era but that was decidedly "meh". The last five minutes were excellent and there were some really good parts in this episode (I liked the bit where he saw Amy and Rory in the shop) but the rest of it was one of the poorest episodes in a long while. What I don't like is the odd change in tact after the break, before, whilst there were a number of seperate arcs in the shows themselves they were pretty clearly joined together, most of the ones after the break haven't really had anything to do with the arc.

weakest doctor who season so far imo...

i preffered the more darker ecclestone drwho though... its gone from fairly good family entertainment into a full blown childrens TV series they might aswell just air it on CBBC and get it over with....

Children's TV series

I'm wondering if I'm watching the same series as you, the first two episodes with the Silence were probably the darkest Doctor Who I've ever seen, the bit in the orphanage? I was actually scared. There was even an article in the paper saying they'd got complaints that it was too scary for children.

Shame the baby crying in the first five minutes wasn't enough to sort the cybermen, seriously, terrible setup, poor scripting and dull unenjoyable episode. Thats without mentioning Cordon, who I can do without, he seemed to get a role as he was James Cordon, and then the doctor needed to visit an old friend prior to his 'death' and going down the list Cordon was all that was available.

I didn't even like the Riversong epilogue, it recounted everything we knew, setting up the next episode, but there was any particular need to tell us what we already knew. Entirely unnecessary episode, disappointing.
