Just gonna game, non SLI.

EVGA GeForce GT 520 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini-HDMI Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1526-KR - EVGA

MSI nVidia GeForce GT 520 1 GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card N520GT-MD1GD3/LP - MSI Computer Corp.

Asus nVidia GeForce GT520 Silent 1 GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card - ENGT520 SILENT/DI/1GD3(LP) - Asus

Well now I just have EvE & UT2k4 installed, but I am wondering about Rage & my GPU is a bit old NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS with 512 DDR3 memory. My system MB/cpu/memory is EVGA. nForce 650i ultra Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8200 2.66GHz 6MB Cache Dual Core 1333MHz 4 Gig DIMM-DRAM. I am not gonna play at super high rez. Just a few rezes above 800x600.

I'm not entirely sure the GTX520 is going to be as quick as your 8800GTS, it's only got 48 CUDA cores, it's pretty lightweight.

I have a Intel core 2 duo e8400 and used to have a 8800gts 512mb it worked well on most games Mafia 2, COD 4 modern warfare all at 1080p to me it sounds like you're downgrading. ;\

What kind of games do you play because I reckon your PC should be fine.

 That is odd, seems a newer card should be better at gaming. So what series past the Geforce 9XXX is good for games?

It's not the series of cards that's the issue, it's the price point I'm afraid. When the 8800gts was released it was roughly the 3rd most powerful card nvidia offered. The modern equivalent would be a 560ti.

Or to put it the other way round, the 520 is the 8400gs of today.

What's the budget for the new card? This will help people recommend something suitable.

For nvidia you are looking at dx10= gtx260/275/280/285, dx11 = gtx460/465/470/480, 550/550ti/gtx570/580.

It looks to me like you are on a small budget but i would try to save some more and get a gtx460 1gb as this is a dx11 card and a good upgrade from what you have.

I have the Asus GT 520 Silent, it's a brilliant card!.... for desktop use only.

Would not advise the GT 520 for gaming.

Your existing card (Geforce 8800GTS 512MB) is actually still pretty decent - it uses a G92 core and is almost as quick as a GTS 250.

If you want a meaningful upgrade over this then you need to spend a bit of money - a GT440 would actually be a slight step down.

My suggestion for a meaningful upgrade would be a GTX 460 or better. This one for example offers a low cost (though only one year warranty), while this 1GB version (with more stream processors as well as VRAM) is the best value IMHO, with it's better performance and 2 year warranty. The GTX 560 and HD 6870 mentioned above are even better value in terms of performance/price, though they do cost a bit more.

Here is a comparison between a 8800GT (a bit slower than your 8800GTS) and a GTX 460 1GB.

I would recommend at minimum GTS 450 or GTX 550 for it to at least be a sidegrade (with DX 11) rather than a big upgrade in performance. How much more you would want to upgrade from there is up to you!
