Hiatus hernia - Awful Health issue :(

Was taken into hospital last night in severe pain, was in tears and pretty much on the floor. It's the intensity of the pain and how long i've suffered... I want my life back, I want to work, I want to do my photography and have fun not this.

They are now investigating an ulcerated stomach and gullet but this time they've put in for an urgent endoscopy. So I can finally see what's going on down there.. then i'm going to have acid tests 24hr and hopefully an operation to close this HH once and for all and solve anything that's going on.

My dad had something similar. It wasn't as severe as what you're describing pain wise, except he was a day away from being dead, but that's another story.

When he went for his last operation, after they'd "drawn" on him etc, they sent him home because they didn't have enough beds.

It's a sham that people are constantly put off even though they're effectively dying.

Hope you get fixed up soon.

What disgusted me though was the fact that I was in so much pain, blood being taken high dosage of pain relief and a lady who fell over (sore ankle) after being drunk, get's the nice treatment. She was swearing, messing about with her friends and laughing and yet I'm suffering through no fault of my own. Would you like a cup of tea?, how are you feeling?, how's the ankle?. She was even brought in by an Ambulance, it's nothing but a taxi ride for these people :(. An Ambulance should be for special cases only, if you can laugh and swear, have fun with your friends then get a friend to bring you!

My tummies been better for a long time now, but then I'll go and get some random IBS / Gas movement that will make it ouchy again.

It usually happens if I dont wait long enough after eating before going to bed.

My dad wasn't even able to get an ambulance to pick him up.
He had to order a taxi to get there.

I'm angry with the medical profession, I've been in and out of A&E twice now and all they do is give me blood tests, wack in pain relief and send me home. Here take more meds and more meds, I was sick last night and I couldn't stand straight my internals are on fire. It's a crippling pain and ended up doubled over finally falling asleep and waking up at 5am. I wake up and my chest/stomach feels bruised, then the pain increases. I eat something and it only makes it worse, it feels like ive torn my insides. It's getting to the point now where I just want to give up on life...

I can't eat, sleep, tears of pain no help from people I put my trust in to find out whats going on inside. The hospital won't refer me for an urgant endoscopy to find out whats going on inside, the doctors have sent off a letter but it could be weeks.

It's not my diet i've changed my diet so many times, god i feel so sick :(

I'm really struggling here guys, not sure what to do as everything is so far away, I've got an endoscopy booked now but it's the 14th October. The problem is just above my stomach in the middle of my chest below my lower two rib cages. I've been unable to breath right for months now and last night was so severe I felt like I couldn't take in an entire breath, like my insides are stuck with a tight knot. I had a lot of pain after eating and this morning I was in intense pain again.

I didn't get to sleep till 4am and kept on thinking, do i phone 999... What do i do!. Everyone that I put my trust in to get my health right has failed me :(

Blimey Neil, sounds horrible. I had regular heartburn for over a year and that was uncomfortable enough. Used to get through loads of magnesium trisilicate. It all went away when i cut the drinking down.

I've also had several very intense gut pains over the years (felt like a stabbing pain), but they only last seconds, so i can barely comprehend what you're going through.

Get well soon dude

Book an emergency appointment with your GP, let them take a look at you and describe everything you have told us. If your GP agrees that you are in real bad shape, they can send you to the hospital and speed up everything.

Before I knew I had crohns disease, I was in a huge amount of pain, often got home from work and slept until morning as I had no energy/couldn't eat.

Parents sent me to the doctor as I wouldn't go myself, when the GP took a look at me, she immediately sent me to the hospital and I was able to skip the waiting lists and get tests instantly.

I've done that twice now, they just say There is nothing more we can do you will just have to wait till the endoscopy 14th october. The hospital just does the same blood tests, wack's me full of pantoprazole without even looking and sends me home. :(

Get well soon dude

Thanks man

Hope you get it sorted asap. Not a nice thing to live with, i got diagnosed with it around 25yrs ago, it never really affected me until 10yrs ago when i started living on a big pack of rennie per day. Tomatoes and Booze seem to affect me the most, though i've been on Omeprazole (1 x 20mg tablet once a day) for the last 8yrs which has controlled it and let me eat pizza and drink beer.

I seem to recall 20+yrs ago that the op was a bit risky, havent looked into it since.

Got an appointment for endoscopy 14th october which is a long way away when i'm in so much pain. When i'm not in pain i'm being burned alive by heartburn!. Today for example a constant burning, Heartburn pills won't touch it and i'm coughing up a lot of phlegm and have a sore throat.

Might try Aloe Vera for the soreness and repair

Pantoprazole
Omeprazole
Lansorprazole
Ranitidine
Gaviscon

All rubbish

Guess what though I was gutted yesterday, they told me to eat little and often.. I was in agony and went to bed at 2 woke up at 6am, had some porridge to get some food in my stomach and the hospital called me up at 8am and said I had an appointment come in for the endeoscopy because someone else cancelled. They wouldn't give it to me because i had eaten and now have to wait the 2weeks, I felt gutted.. They tell me to eat little and often then they pull that on me. I told them i was being punished because i had eaten but they just said nothing we can do.

Sorry to hear you're still struggling so much :(. I'm assuming that your GP has referred you to a specialist. If not, and it's the GP who has arranged the endoscopy then I'd be back demanding to be referred to one straight away.

It has already been suggested already but you can pay to see specialists privately without waiting around. It might be worth finding out what's possible, bearing in mind that when you go on the 14th it may be just for the endoscopy itself and any appointment to discuss the results could be later still.

The referred specialist is 28th October and the Endoscopy is the 14th, you cannot be pushed forward for the specialist even in an emergency. As for the Endoscopy you can only be put on a cancel list priority if anyone cancels they phone you, however you can't just stop eating on the basis they might call you, you'd starve to death. That's why i said I hate doctors and I hate the hospitals, they have not shown any care whatsoever to my cause. When someone needs morphine for pain, that's urgent. I could go private for the specialist but without seeing what is going on in my insides, only the endo would do that.

When i had that second attack that was so severe I was on the floor, i was sent into the health clinic for emergencies. The same place that does the endoscopy but they sent me to the hospital instead and pumped me full of drugs and said go home.

Sadly it sounds like you're being made to follow a very sequential and rigid process. Much as I support the NHS if a family member was in your position I'd be investigating if it was possible to get any tests done privately too. Apart from the physical discomfort/pain, I'd bet there's a 'not-in-control' and 'no-one cares' element that isn't helping.

Thanks wonko, it's like now, the heartburn is so bad I can feel it burning my insides as if a razor blade was swallowed. No heartburn pill will touch it, eating makes it worse.

This doesn't feel like an ulcer :( but i've developed this chronic cough and crackling phelgm

Really sorry to hear you are going through this Neil79, my missus has had the same sort of thing, she was being sick with it all the time and stress made it worse.

Obviously we can't give medical advice on here but we can advise on diet, do you avoid any foods?

For my missus peppermint is an absolute no no. Thankfully hers has settled down now and she can live a normal life with just the occasional mild attack (meaning she hasn't been sick in months), but a few weeks ago we were at a family occasion and there were homemade peppermint creams (omm nom nom), she only had two that were the size of a 2p coin and she was violently ill that night.

Peppermint is her kryptonite.

What about anyone else who suffers from it? What foods do you have to avoid, lets help Neil in any small way we can!

For lunch yesterday i had egg on toast, and a egg n custard tart. Natural yogurt through the day, bread and butter in chicken soup. For dinner I had mash with cooked chicken pieces and a little bit of chicken soup on the mash so it wasn't so rough on the throat. About 3hrs before bed I had a small piece of cheesecake, not a lot just a small piece it was vanilla.

This morning i had porridge with Lactose free milk, for lunch I had a small taster of chicken n sweetcorn soup but didn't like the sweetcorn so ended up having ham in bread and butter. Then I had natural yogurt and a egg n custard tart earlier. This was the last few days, before that mainly natural yogurt, soup, chicken n mash and yes i drink water.

Oh and I forgot i've been eating bananas
