Looking at a nice wee red fabia vas for the wife

It's a 54 plate with 87k miles and fsh and it's up for £3900

I know the vrs' hold their price but I'm not sure if this is a good/bad figure

The one were looking at is immaculate condition and completely standard albeit with what seems like no options

Soooo good price or bad price?

Woman logic she does 4k a year and thinks a diesel makes perfect sense

But in terms of overall bills it's a big saving

Ie discs and pads insurance etc etc

Slap her and tell her to get on with driving the LCR.

Oh yeah, I'm sure with 4,000 miles a year, the savings on brake pads and discs will pay for the difference in running costs in no time!

no but the dropping of 11 insurance groups might :) :)

i did try to explain to her but the only thing that puts her off a fabia is the smell of the diesel when filling it up :(

You wanted a V8 Range Rover for her last month at double the budget.

correction i want to retain the status quo. LCR is a perfectly capable family hatch for her bumbling to college and tesco in. (and for me to steal for back road shenanigans at the weekends)

but like most men out there i am regularly brow beaten into accepting a point of view that is niether sensible or logical. i am what they call "married"

if she just wants a small, cheap to run, nippy diesel hatch then the vrs ok. but you are talking nearly 4k for a 7 year old small, average hatch with highish mileage. from ones i have seen these arn't built to wear as well as a octavia or larger more luxurious car.

however, if money saving is the game, you could get a much newer small engine, lower mileage petrol fabia / fiesta etc for the same or less money and return a similar economy.

price wise though what are they selling for on auto trader? anywhere from 3-4k feels about right for one of these in good condition as they still have the following & desirability boosting prices for some reason.

I did offer her a nice 2 week holiday and a vectra diesel but she said no(well not no but lots of profane abusive words) its a sensible diesel hatch back with leather and toys :confused: i even offered to remove the taxi plates :D

although it would make perfect sense. punt the LCR and use vectra taxi for pootling about (i'm getting another vectra come february to replace the current one) almost a venemous hatred towards the vectra. Have i married Jeremy Clarkson?

i have suggested something sensible like a nice focus, or even a mk5 golf but woman logic confuses me.

90% of car purchasing decision seems to be down to it either being 1) the right colour and 2) shiny. the notion of price performance of VFM do not seem to enter into the equation at any point.

but on the subject of the fabia, its an agricultural little box with all the interior charm of an empty cardboard box.

i'm going to try a bit of temptation and show her this :)

wish me luck

Being 'married' doesn't mean you can't man up and tell her her opinion is silly and the LCR stays.

i'm married to a psycopathic weegie,

i like my testicles attached to my body :)

but womans irrational thoughts aside any fabia ownere on here, and what are they like to live with day to day?

i'm assuming mechanically it will be near as dam it the same as the various octavia diesels that i've had ?

The engine will be virtualy the same as the later Octavia with the PD diesel. The Fabia is based on the Polo and the Octavia is Golf based so there will be less commonality in the rest of the car.

Would a Fiesta or something not be a better proposition, with a little petrol engine

Or, dare I say it, a Corsa D?

women purchase cars based on mostly three criteria

is it an irrational purchase - check
is it the right colour - check
what do the girlfriend’s, what do other parents on a school run or what does mumsnet say (or worse all three) - check

what does husband say - nope
what do car mags say - nope
is it value for money - nope

any technicalities are out the window. heck even with women who are petrol heads apply the above.

last time i suggested a corsa to my wife she called me every name under the sun and i got no nookie for a week.

hates vauxhalls especially corsas

Really? Seems quite an overreaction for suggesting a car that is perfectly suited to her needs.

I really cant see what the Fab has going for it in this situation.

The Fab is a PD btw
