***** The Official Fifa 12 Thread *****

I do think we should have a seperate thread for UT. There's so much UT talk that the posts about anything else get quickly buried.

its all VP and UT anyway, i doubt you will be here talking about career mode and the game in general 3 months down the line, just the same as the Fifa11 thread, its all VP and UT talk, Nothing else.

ps3Ud0- Another 1k today, so im over 10k now.

Do you just want the coins or shall i start buying players if see some cheap? What team do you want to build etc?
Coins would be better so I can play the market - gonna be a while til I start a proper team as at first Ill just be doing the 300/600 trick

Thanks again - Im just under 1.7k - just cant get any of my players sold, just too much on the market and no big money is coming into it...
Hmmm, Game appeared to have cancelled my order due to too many people pre-ordering. Anyone got anywhere else to order from with a similar price/deal?
WOW that sucks  - they were only ones with the UE version too. Glad I avoid them now...

Okay, I had a horrible time playing this online last night, I lost about 10 games in a row, won one and drew one. I was pretty damn good at FIFA 11, so obviously I found this incredibly frustrating.

I've now managed to win several games on the bounce, so I've put a few tips together that I think will help people playing now win more easily, and will also help next week when the game is actually out and more people are playing.

Firstly, forget everything you know about playing FIFA 11, you will get battered online if you play like that.

The key to winning at FIFA 12 is being solid defensively. It's that simple.

When attacking, stringing moves together usually requires quite a lot of passing and patience, unless you're able to mount a fast counter attack.

The key to defending effectively is as follows -

Mainly, you want to be using the A/X button, which basically locks your defender onto the opposition player and then you can keep a good distance from them by using the left thumbstick.

This means you can control where they go to some extent and keep them away from your penalty area. It also diminishes the effect of skill moves, should your opponent be a Ronaldo whore.

This is really the key to the entire defensive side of FIFA 12, when you get this right, you will stop letting so many goals in. Don't worry too much about calling a second player with R1/RB, it's fiddly and doesn't often help.

If you're sure you can make the tackle, press B/O to do so. If this fails, your player may end up on the floor which means the attacking player can skip past him, or worse yet, give away a penalty or free kick.

Anyway, overall it is a fantastic game and with two evenly matched players, online games often feel very realistic and have fairly realistic scorelines. :)

Mind confirming your buttons maps? Lots of people were changing to a custom layout during the demo so be good to understand what you mean exactly (I know I sound dull). Sounds like plain Classic...

Do people now find A/X (contain) better than running jockey? Definitely sounds like defending is a necessary manual chore over previous games - if thats good/bad I guess depends on the players temperament, you definitely cant say FIFA12 is pick up and play after-pub game now...

I use a hybrid of PES and alternative fifa controls, X is my standing tackle, Square is CPU pressure, R1 is sprint and R2 will be contain.

I've found that contain is pretty much useless for anything related to tackling, it's only useful for me when I feel the opponent is going to cut in on the wing and it allows me to cover this. The rest of the time its far easier to tackle with just the left stick and timing standing tackle, don't use sprint + left stick when the ball is being passed about! The player is a lot more responsive now that you don't really need the L2 jockey button either!

It is definitely harder now, you have to really watch every aspect of what your defenders are doing or you'll let in an absurd amount of goals.

What is it with some people?

Losing 1-0 at half time. He got a lucky goal and that was his only shot on target.

second half I score 2 goals withing 10 minutes of game time. He pauses it and says "you ****** loser."

I don't get it. I out played him, got into the lead then he sends me vile messages. lol. Ended up beating him 7-1 because he just hacked me and got 2 CB's sent off.

Hate playing idiots like this online.

and yes, this is fifa 11

250c. sitting on 4k right now.

Not really tried to play the market. Can't be bothered as all the prices right now are inflated.

I had most of my luck buying contracts cheap and selling high and making 200c-300c profit on each card. Would buy 20 gold contracts and sell them all withing a day.

Then I got bored of that and bought coins on ebay. Will probably do the same.

Fifa 12 UT is out. Go log into the web app. http://www.ea.com/soccer/fifa-ultimate-team/app

You could almost create a decent all gold side with 4k!!!! Tons of Golds go for 300g everyday.

To those that are playing online, are you still getting people quitting if they start losing :(?

That always wound me up!

Never played it for long on FIFA11. Should I make an all silvers team, an all bonze team? How much does 'chemistry' really matter?

I find chemistry to be quite important, but I'm not a very good player so any boost helps!

I skipped silver players altogether though I bolstered my side with them. I went pretty much from a very cheap bronze side to replacing them with 300/350 gold players who you can discard when the contracts expire for what you've paid for them.

I've come to the conclusion that "Tactical Defending" is the worst "Feature" EA have ever added to FIFA :(

Until you learn how to use it, yes it is.

When it's working properly (i.e. 2 people that know how to use it), it adds a lot of realism to the game.

When you don't understand how it works, it's a massive pain in the arse. Keep practising.

If I were to pre-purchase Fifa 12 online now through Origin will I get access to UT right away? I'm intrigued as to what the hell all the fuss is about.

The whole tactical defending thing is only such an issue because before you didn't really have to think too much about timing and decision making with defending. Only when you got super-competetive did it matter more, but even then it was fairly simple to recover.

i.e. In FIFA 11, you could make standing tackles and keep moving, you could send Ashley Cole all the way to the box and he'd be back to handle the counter-attack as if he hadn't moved.

Now, you have to be more careful. If you make a sudden change in direction, it does affect you. If you stick out a foot, you stop, if you hit the player, free-kick, if you get the ball, great and you'll play onto it, if you miss completely or the opponent runs around/past you, you'll stop and have to recover.

I've been finding that using the contain function is actually quite important when making tackles as a defender, it stops them from just blindly shooting, and you're more likely to stick a foot out at the right time. I'm no pro at it, but with some practice I'll have it down.

You can tell that most people are still struggling when you play online but it is a much more realistic feature that just needs some getting used to.
