Unemployment thread

online poker is something I have been dabbling in and have started studying a few books. I am doing ok so far.

Benefit fraud, card counting? More advice appreciated

Well I don't actually recommend fraud. But card counting is apparently easy enough if you have a couple of friends who are willing to join in

At school ''HIGHERS''. I won awards for highest results in Maths and physics.

At uni I won no awards. But in the 1st half exams for physics and engineering maths at Edinburgh uni I got the highest results as was listed on the exam board. Achieving 99% for one off the results. So I was pretty amazing at maths back in the day. I think I am slight autistic/aspergers.

Anyway this is old news and I quit physics as it bored me and eventually graduated in Sports Science.

I am English speaking but type like a retard and make many spelling errors cause im lazy and impatient and type fast whilst watching tv and playing football manager.

nonetheless the thread is not about me I have previous threads about my situation.

I was wondering how you guys look for jobs? And what luck you have had.

I have a job, in fact I technically have two until January. I have never been unemployed except for when i was in recovery for a year. You did state in your previous thread that you had won awards in School and University, but no matter.

I find it strange that your typing is so poor even if you are lazy, I actually have to concentrate to type as badly as you do as it seems unnatural to write in such a way if you are educated enough not to.

OP, to teach English in a foreign country wouldn't you have to also be fluent in their language? You haven't quite grasped English yourself yet, let alone learning another language on top. :p

Nope, my friend is teaching English in China, and she knew next to nothing of Chinese before leaving. It isn't a requirement, but is handy if you know at least some.

yeh i realised when I typed it thats what it said but i did not think anyone was going to chase me up on that fact lol. It was easier to type than ''also I achieved the highest marks in phyiscs..bla bla bla''

Im playing football manager, wathing tv, browsing job sites and other websites, eating food etc....so im not fully here

1. What is your education? B.Sc (2:1) Business Information Systems

2. What is your status..? Graduated this year - now temporary cabling and IT support work

3. How often do you look for jobs? and where? Mainly looking at grad schemes for next year at the moment.

4. How often do you see suitable jobs which you contact/apply for? Seen a few, applied but not heard anything back

5. How often do you get interview for job? Never

6. Any other interesting unemployment info? I am quite happy not having to do a 9-5+ job at the moment, maybe as winter sets in I will get a little more depressed.
But can't beat gaming all day with the occasional work to tick things over.

However, in life as it is I am more like Ali G lmao. Brain of Einsten, personality of Ali g.

I think you'll find most of us are posting while doing other things. Sort out your English and people will take you a little more seriously.

Never heard of counting cards and studied maths at University, even if it was only temporarily. Strange.

Its a strategy for blackjack in casinos.

You assign a score to each card dealt, when the score you keep in your head becomes high, there is a greater chance of getting a winning hand.

So you bet low figures when the count is low, and bet lots when the count in high. Minimise your losses, maximise your wins. Profit.

Its very simple to do, but the difficulty lies in being able to do it without getting caught. Whilst its totally legal, the casinos don't like it and will try and prevent you from doing so. Working in a group helps keep you hidden and can make you more money as well, but is again more difficult.

ok so you have to go to the casinos and play blackjack? or online also?

then this is a strategy you use? thats all it is

Pretty much, but theres some very interesting statistics behind it all, and you can make some serious money doing it.

Ah cheers :) been getting very mixed reactions to my current plan of going to back to uni (means living with mum for a year to save cash and travel time) but tis good to know other people have done a similar thing and come out for the better :)

Tbh I moved into halls and loved it (not the halls but being back to independence). I made a lot of close friends on the course as it was pretty intense and only a small class (25 of us), not sure what yours will be like though.

Most of the British students on the course for jobs through jobs advertised through the course (ie adverts sent to out course coordinator and forwarded to us) so I would recommend you apply for those, as is always said a lot of this sort of thing is as much about who you know as what you know! It might be totally different on your course though, mine was very industry focussed, designed to slot us into a specific industry so there was a lot of industry contact.

wait so this is as simple as making big bets when you have good cards and not making bets when you have rubbish cards?

I dont see whats so abnormal about this strategy?

As for the job sites you should try Total Jobs, Fish4jobs, read the local newspapers and go around town handing out CV's. I guess you could try signing up to an employment agency as well, the work may be temporary to begin with but anything is better than nothing, especially with it being so close to Christmas. Also the Job Centre Plus website works better if you use SOC codes to search for jobs instead of keywords.

Not really...:p

My sister went out to China with only a basic grasp of Chinese (possibly mandarin). Its not a requirement AFAIK.
