Can you suggest me a cooler

Planning on buying a 2500k with UD3 motherboard but I'm unsure what cooler to get with it.

I probably won't overclock it too much, I'm guessing 4.3-4.4ghz would be optimum. Looking to spend as little as possible really (within reason). I should be able to get one for around £25 right?

If I'm looking to get memory with some heat spreaders do I need to be wary of the size of the cooler I'm getting? At a guess might shove it in an Antec 300 case.

Any suggestions would be great.

A lot of people seem to like the Gelid Tranquillo This should easily see your i5 to the speeds you need and within your price range. Just looked at some pictures of the cooler in place and it seems to provide enough clearance for the RAM also. Do you know which RAM you have in mind?

sounds good - I'll try find some reviews.

Not 100% but quite a few people are suggesting the RipJaws or the Kingston HyperX, but I think the latter has gone back up in price. I might end up getting one without spreaders just in case.

i use the cporsair a70 on my i5 2500k overclocked to 4.6ghz @ 1.312 volts

im using kingston hyper x genesis ram but something with fins might not clear the cooler

prime load temps are in the high fifties

i think for the price it offers excellent cooling and is well built and the fans dont have stupid clips they just fit on

It arrived today, better late than never :) Looks great, build quality is impeccable, fans that comes with it is very quiet.

Temps are as follows on a Q6600 @ 3ghz 1.325v:

Fan speed: 600RPM

Idle:
Core 0 - 28c
Core 1 - 26c
Core 2 - 27c
Core 3 - 28c

CPU BurnIn (15 mins):
Core 0 - 39c
Core 1 - 41c
Core 2 - 40c
Core 3 - 42c

It looks warped sitting on the cardboard. The top looks buckled slightly. The right looks like it's pulling towards the photo. I see the design is a slight S shape but it gives a funky illusion it's buckled.

Compared to...

The cooler features bent winglets like the original TRUE, that's why it looks like that. The stock picture just doesn't portray it very well at that angle.

Any chance of vortez ever incorporating Intel burn test to reviews I think a lot of people use that these days most cooler reviews I find hardly ever use that or push the chip to it's max safe overclock which really separates the men from the boys .The chances are if you are spending a lot on an air cooler you are looking to heavily overclock, although I suspect the top wont look much different and got to love the TRUE still hanging with the big boys all these years later.I have the oversized version the archon and it's pretty good although wish I'd had bought a silver arrow when it was £50.The best thing though are those thermalright ty-14 fans wonder how they would perform on a 120mm sized cooler like this at £7 a pop got to be the fan of the moment will definitely get a few when stock arrives.

As Helios said it's meant to be like that, reduces are reisistence/turbulence so that it's quieter iirc.

Seems to work, it's all but silent and cools pretty well.

I actually use LinX already which is simply a front end for the same Linpack test used by Intel Burn test. The reason I have stuck with 4GHz when overclocking my chip is because when I first started, no other review site overclocked that high and when they started, it was too late for me to go back and redo everything at something higher. The other problem is that my chip runs very hot and won't do much above 4GHz. It does 4.189GHz but even the likes of my Noctua can struggle with that. I still think my 4GHz chip is a good representation of a heavily overclocked CPU though since it churns out as much heat as my 990x overclocked to 4.5GHz. Even SB will generate less heat at a higher overclock.

I'd only start again if I moved platform to say X79.
