Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

I was thinking of selling mine some of the prices people want for them are shocking. Mine is on 74k still needs the big service within the next 1k has a scratch on the front bumper I still have not got fixed and a crack in the mirror. Both incidents due to local jakies. A 1cm hole in the seat previous owners carelessness with a cigarette. Has a full service history but will need a couple of new tyres. If I was selling mine I know realistically it needs some work and would adjust my price to suit probably knock about 700 off the standard price for one its age.

It annoys me when searching for cars that people just google a few and put it up at the same price. Like I was looking at xc90s recently 5-6k down south gets you one at 130k miles up here the fools have got 160k on them 8 years old and think they are worth 8 grand :p

It is pretty nuts. I am really aiming for 5500 quid max now and 65k miles or less for that and as mint as poss. Really would like an 05 car... but it's not too essential as long as 2004 onwards. I've spent hours looking tonight and am in touch with a few people, but no one is honest enough and when you go and visit the real truths come out lol.

All good fun :)

hah you wonder if they think hmm if i don't tell him its a dog when he comes he wont bother and buy it anyway :p

Good luck finding one that your happy with there are lots of the market so you do not have to rush.

John/Dave,

Where are you looking for these cars?

My friend has a CTR that he wants to sell and he doesn't think he'll get much more than £3.5k for it, he has has all work done by Honda too .

Can't see the market for CTR's being that bad surely?!

This is why you go to a decent specialist and not a dealership :p I had the major service done on my DC5 (the same as the EP3) for under £300 including valve clearances.

They may quote £500 but I only paid £260 for the full major 75k service inc valve clearances at Honda after I changed the brake fluid and spark plugs myself :) The guy on the service desk who booked it in for this price didn't work in the service department so that may of also helped a little :p

One other thing to remember when looking at CTRs around this milage is that the clutch will be near the end of its life - so factor in the cost of a new one during your ownership. (£175 + fitting for an oem exedy clutch)

The Hondas hold their Price too well Stormster. This is something I can't get my head around at the moment,

Just seems like dead money for me.. one of the reasons I can't make my mind up :o

This is pretty much the reason I went for the 182.

This is pretty much the reason I went for the 182.

Don't 182s generally have more issues with reliability (gearbox being one that immediately springs to mind), perhaps negating the savings (to some extent) when compared with the higher initial cost of the CTR?

Don't get me wrong - I think the 182 is a brilliant car.

Ok, so its not a facelift but... click

I don't see why you don't go for something like that (but one thats advertised with slightly more info than bullet points!) and spend whats left on some choice mods (SC :D)

A mate of mine offered me a 58 plate one with similar mileage almost a year ago now for what he owed to settle the finance which was £9k. Don't really like them though and although cheap didn't seem cheap enough to make a big margin punting it on.

I've also been looking on PH, ebay, autotrader, forums...

I ideally would like black or cosmic grey. I've seen and been speaking to the seller of a silver one. The car is near on perfect, some huge res pics have been sent my way and it sounds great. But I can't help thinking silver looks dull on CTR's :(

I definitely want a facelift.

Got any more info about your mates, Phil?

Taken I've seen that red motor too, close to me as well so you must live in Market Drayton or near? :) I've been discounting red cars (even though milage/condition/price they're the best value) as it'll be too much hard work for me to keep it red! But some are better value definitely it seems.

This is the silver one I'm unsure about, no one buy it yet :D, it doesn't have aircon either so to me would need a chunk of dosh knocking off, but speaking to the guy at length its near perfect bar a small scratch on back bumper near bootlid and some scratches on the silver handle bit on drivers door card (honestly it's nothing): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270824272301?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 - the ad is crap but the guy seems really genuine and he's answered looooads of questions for me, lots of work service wise done at tdi north who I hear good things about.
