Hi guys,

I am struggling to collect a plasma I am purchasing, it's a ex stock from Richer Sounds. So they don't do delivery on ex stock which is handy...

Anyway, Parcel2Go is near enough £45, which is silly to be honest but to be expected :(

What other options do I have?

Thanks

Do they not offer postage? Are they ok with you using your own courier?

Is it a local store? Can you not just ask a friend to nip down and pick it up?

Pay a courier.

Seriously - a 50" plasma? I wouldn't want to be anywhere close to responsible for that getting dropped. Let someone else take on the risk.

er, just get to the store and then get a taxi home. just tell the taxi company you need a decent sized taxi for the space.

if it isn't a local store then P2G would be the best option, a 50" P isn't exactly small and light to ship.

It's picking up from Oxford and getting back to Reading, so not a short journey :(

EDIT: to add, I would normally have no issue collecting, but I am working all week until 6pm so can't even rush there after work :( And can't take time off due to a huge roll out of new laptops to all our users so we are manic!

the store is open sat and sunday

Bear in mind a Plasma must be kept upright at all times and never layed flat.

Why is that? I stuck my 50" Panny plasma in the car boot with the seats folded down, layed it screen side up (in the original box with the blocks and stuff).

Was a 40 min journey and had no issues? Screen was perfectly fine afterwards.

Rubbish.

When my dad got a plasma tv he but it flat in the back of his car from work to home, well over an hour commute.

Still have that TV 3 years later, its been fine.

Oh yeh plasma TV's also need to be regassed ;)

Does it come in a box?
This makes a difference!

I bought some active speakers in store and they never came in a box. They just buried them in bubble wrap.

It's something to do with the screen on plasma's being really fragile when they are on their side, extremely easy to crack. If you went over a bump too hard for example.

I have been in conversation with one specific guy at the Oxford Richer Sounds, he has found a box for the TV, not the original, but it will do. He also managed to find all the remote, stand ect ect. So basically, a unused TV that never got sold, very few hours run time for a fraction of retail price :)

Got him to turn it on, check it and check the on time (<30 hours :D). He also confirmed the bezel is immaculate and so is the screen. So good times.

My bargain hunting skills are strong :P

I have arranged to collect it tomorrow afternoon as they are open till 7 instead of 6.

So, will be a insane journey from Reading to Oxford in a hour, in rush hour lol. Going to be tight!

Pack llamas and 40 Himalayan Sherpa would be easiest, but we must head out soon before monsoon season on the M40.

Many couriers won't cover you for their insurance on monitors/displays of this nature. Make sure you read the list of items that are not covered for their insurance. I know for a fact Parcel2Go won't cover you.
