Cheapest way to collect and deliver a 50" plasma

take an extra £10/£20 in cash with you then, if you get stuck in traffic and close to the wire, call the store and offer to bung the guy some ££ to stay open or wait behind, will be cheaper than a wasted journey.

Haha, one step ahead mate :D

Actually, one even better, swapped my shift with my collegue so I finish at 4 (weekly shift rotations, either 10-6 or 8-4). So will be home by half 4, quick cuppa and a snack, on the road by 5, plenty of time :D

Let's have a vote.

Who would lay their plasma flat in the car?

I've had this discussion many times with people. I'm friends with the manager of Richer sounds and he is against doing it. I remember readings years ago it wasn't OK... it's OK for LCD tv's however.

I've had one delivered flat and it was fine. Questions delivery men and was greeted by a blank expression. So... I'm in two minds now. If I was stuck. I think I would just do it. However, upright if I could.

So what's your thoughts? Would you lay it flat?

It's a load of rubbish about how it should be handled. Surely you would expect huge warning text on the boxes they come in?

Mine did come with massive warnings on the box not to lay it flat. It is only a 37" Panasonic. But we had to get it in the back of a Clio, as I went to the depot to pick it up he wheeled it put on its back on a pallet truck, so I just wedged it in the back seat, Got home and it was fine, has been for nearly four years.

And because this is the internet no one else's views count. Mine was fine so all will be fine. Fact.

They are shipped flat on pallets, so I can't see how that half hour journey is going to be detrimental. I carried mine flat, as otherwise it wouldn't fit in the car.

My understanding is you're not supposed to lay it flat for a long period of time. Getting it home is ok, since it'll not be on its side for too long.

As for the original OP. What car do you have? What car do your friends have? You'll need two of you and a car that the seats come down in.

I remember years and years ago, when widescreen TV's first came about, I purchased a massive first of its kind 32in CRT widescreen from Tottenham Court Rd, thing cost me an absolute fortune, like 2k and it weighed more than a sherman tank. I got a cab and requested it was like a van to get it home. I think it cost me 50quid at the time to get me back to the borders of London / Surrey. Getting it home was tough, getting it up the stairs to my bedroom cos i was living at home with my mum at the time, was even harder. I recall having to call a couple of friends to help me for the final approach. Even though it was only 32" (early 90's remember) at the time it was WOW look at the size of that thing, how on earth did you ever get it home. So consider yourself lucky..

Get a 6 seater taxi...

Transported 2x 42inch plasma TV's from Richer sounds via this method. Took about 30 mins in the taxi and it was all right (they were in their boxes).

I know exactly what tv your going for as i've also been hankering over buying it for £399 for sometime but don't have a feasible way of getting it home!

Let me guess its the 50" Panny G10, for £400 for a ~£1000 tv a year and a half old with a warranty that could be extended by richer sounds (correct me if im wrong) its a very good deal indeed!!

Doing it today mate,

Very excited, been without a TV for over a week :( Didn't want to use my old Samsung 37" either as it's now in the spare room all cabled up... Too much of a paint to take it down :(

I actually considered going outside at one point!
