I have played about 5 rounds of caspian border and with a 6950 2gb it is very smooth indeed.

Running at 1920x1080 without a single noticeable slowdown with practically everything on Ultra.

Maybe it is a vram issue

Are people really worried about the difference between high and Ultra when talking about online play? fair enough for single player but i wouldn't be too bothered with regards to online tbh

I think you are right aswell:(

I was getting around 25-29 FPS for my 1GB 5850 at both stock (725/1000MHz) and overclocked (900/1200MHz) settings which I find very strange.

Usually with overclocked 5850, I get 10+ FPS extra over stock.

I think there isn't much difference between an overclocked 5850 and a stock 6950. Even if both cards are overclocked, the performance difference is more like around 15%, hardly huge.

The fact that your gameplay is smooth for your 2GB 6950 vs heavy lag for my 1GB 5850 can only mean that I have run out of vram and overclocking my card won't make any further difference :(

Nope, ill be more than happy with high, looks great, runs well. As for single player, i doubt if ill play it much. Really enjoying this atm. Doing far better in game than i do in bc2 or moh which ive played the most lately. Started playing the recon class a bit, the default us sniper rifle is a corker.:D Really impressed with the sound as well, the gunfire sounds like something from a tv news report. Still havent got to try caspian border yet, looks fantastic too.

Definitely, BF3 with AA on was eating around 1.5-1.9GB :S

:(

I was so proud of my 5850 till BF3 beta.

It is still a very good card. However the 1GB Vram wasn't enough to save it.

Overall gameplay is fine with 5850. But it is just that during heavy/intense action, I experience big lags/poor performance.

Hmm I need to wait for high end AMD 7000 series now

If I can't play multiplayer on Ultra I will burn the game files onto a disk, snap the disk in half, then uninstall the game from my PC.

:D

I'm not happy with anything less than highest on a single player game, but i'm not too bothered when it comes to an online shooter. For a start you need it as smooth as possible, also it is not like you are going to be plodding along admiring the view!

I think Battlefield 3 is definitely a next gen game.

I think for people like us who have a single 5850, 470, 460 etc, we definitely need next gen graphics cards i.e. Nvidia 600 and AMD 7000 series cards to play this game on highest setting with smooth gaming experience.

1GB vram was enough just couple of months ago. However now 2GB will become the mainstream.

Im hitting 1200mb out of 1280 on my cards, fairly heats them up as well, 77-72c at 750/1500/1674 clocks. Two i7 9** rigs in one room, who needs heating lol.:D
