looking to buy a skoda fabia vrs

Sorry - Skoda chipped your car for you?
Please can you give me some more details about Skoda chipping vehicles?
Because I'm assuming that if Skoda do it your warranty will not be effected - whereas the various 3rd party remaps can cause warranty issues.

Never heard of Skoda doing any form of remapping - but would be interested to hear more.

What details would you like? I'm afraid I don't have too many to share.

I purchased the car back in 07 I believe from my local garage. They said the car was chipped and they they had done it for the previous owner (one owner from new). I questioned this and they showed me some charts to prove it. I proved it later on with the RR which I attended around 2 years ago now. The owner approached the dealership (same one who originally sold the car to the guy) and asked them to do it, it wasn't their first and they already had someone/company who do it for them. It was done, given back to the gent who had it before me and then I bought it. As stated, I never had to use the warrenty service, but was assured (in writing) that this wouldn't affect any warrenty. Hell, I even had to change insurers even though I had a months left to run, as they wouldn't insure me!!

I queried at the time and the warrenty is still in tact, how so I'm not so sure as I never needed to use it. I'm not the only one who has done it, Briskoda has many instances of this happening.

Hope this helps, anything else you need I'll keep my eye out for this thread.

This is because people furiously masterbate over the idea of the 1.9tdi as they will get 50mpg.
Also 130hp really is not a hot hatch.

I managed 45mpg by thrashing it to it's very end. Never, ever, saw it go under 30mpg.

As above, mine was chipped producing 177 bhp.

Ages ago i test drove a vRS and the dealer offered a number of remaps he said would be covered under warranty. I never went any further to see paperwork etc.

And to the OP. When I drive the GFs car I am always pleasently supprised. It's not blisteringly quick, but it's a perfectly good car. You can put your foot down (at any sensible speed) and quickly pick up enough speed to overtake anything (as long as it's not trying to race you).

You just have to remember it's a TD and running to the redline (which seems to be my default choice when overtaking) that your just wasting your time. You might as well change early.

Fuel consumption is very good and you can easily see 55mpg on long motorway journeys (as long as you stick to the speed limits).

It handles pretty well, it is a bit heavy up front, but the suspension handles it pretty well.

The brakes are very good, when she first got the car and we were driving on the motorway (and I was used to driving my polo) the braking concerteena started infront of me and I applied the brakes. I accidently applied the same force and amount as I would in my polo and came to a complete stop about 10 metres before the car in front of me.

Overall I think it's a good car, it's not going to set the world alight, but it's got power (torque anyway, and that's really where all the fun is) a plenty and you can string corners together quite easily. Just don't expect to win any traffic light grand prix, but then again I don't think that's what your after doing anyway with the sound of it.

.

This is a Fabia vRS as I would see one.

I know all about remapping Skoda's.
My old Octy vRS was remapped and I'm still deciding on if I will remap my current one.
However I know full well that should anything go wrong and it can be attributed to the remap then Skoda will not be doing anything under warranty.
Skoda do not have any "authorised" remappers, so all you are getting is a promice from the mappers that they will cover any breakage - if they will pay out you'd just have to wait and see.

There is no "official Skoda dealership" remap -anything done will be third party. Give Skoda UK a call and explain about the "dealership map" - they will have kittens.

The old vRS isn't really a hot hatch at all (the new one is though) - the hot hatch of that generation of VW was the Polo and Ibiza 1.8T. It was fast, could be mapped sky high, and best of all it wasn't a tractor.

I own a 130 TDI Ibiza, it's not even marked as being FR trim, just a plain old "sport" model. On the other hand, if you need diesel economy then it's fast enough.

Things to look out for, as said, are cam belt and water pump. The TDI vRS also has a habit of blowing up its turbo at ~60-80k miles.

Fabia vrs

Hi everyone. I'm new on here. I have a 2004 vrs and I love it. I have gone a bit further with mine than most though. 2266 vk garret turbo. Firad race injectors. High lift cam.big fmic. Lsd and a custom remap all done by darkside developments in Barnsley. I wouldn't call it a supercar by any means, but its running 280bhp and 400flbs. It revs to 5500 and pulls like crazy all the way through. The best 0-60 I've managed is 5 sec but I'm not the best driver in the world. It's been dynod at 320bhp and 425 flbs with the nitrous switched on. Handling is awesome now with billestien adjustable dampening coilovers and all the strut braces etc. Still pulling strong at 140 mph would imagine the limiter would come in at 155. It is brilliant fun to say the least. Wouldn't want nitrous on for 0-60 mind.

I was doing 301kph on the autobahn 2 weeks back and had to pull over to let a VRS past. I think it was a standard one so yours must be epic. I gave up at 330kph as he was laying smoke. :)

It seems someone took a photo of the event

Too add there is a little running thing on this forum with Fabia VRs owners claiming immense kills for their cars. Now you've not done that, but that is why this thread he been responded to like it has :)

We have had one for 5 years for a run around. 171k and still going strong. It's starting to show its age mind, rust appearing :( going to change it shortly for a mk7 GTD

I've got a mate with one well over 250k. It's been in his family since new. Mine ... sub 40k as I commute on foot. It's just about run in.

I'll concede they've turned into a bit of a modern day 306 Dturbo. All those pesky kids sticking tat on them and stuffing them into trees has sent my insurance up a bit. :(

Well as I said its not a supercar. But it's still quite an achievement to get a 1.9 deisel to do 0-60 in 5. For not a lot of money really. Not quite an r8 but look at the power and price difference but a lot of fun all the same as I said. I like the fact that I fitted all the brakes and suspension my self too and found the difference it made. For me also the amazing thing is if I drive sensibly it will still return 55 mpg on the motorway.
