I ordered the above kingston stuff the other day when it was 39.99, could only order one set, decided to gtrab a aset and purchase another at a later date.

Just saw the crucial on offer, anyone got any info on which woudl be best?

Problem is Im not going to be able to use it straight away, I'm just grabbing it while its cheap for a build around xmas time.

If you're putting them both in the same PC for 16GB then get another set of the HyperX.

Using four sticks which match will reduce your chances of encountering any problems.

Yeah was aiming for 2 kits of the same stuff.

Just wondering if the ballistix has any pros/cons over the kingston

The Ballistix has slightly looser timings so you'd have to loosen the timings on the set you already have or try and run the Ballistix with tighter timings.

It isn't worth messing about with.

I'd go for the Kingston over the Crucial everytime. They have better timings and I vowed never to touch Crucial memory again after having to send 4 kits of Ballistix Tracer DDR2 back when it constantly corrupted my data!

Ah kk then guys, Just picked them up from the PO and I'll keep a hold of the kingston and await another cheapy deal on a second set :)

If the New PC doesnt go ahead I can always pass them to a mate or chuck em on MM, at what should be a better price than retail should the price inflation rumours be true

thanks for the help :)

If you're expecting RAM prices to increase then waiting for a cheaper price than £45.98 for another set of the HyperX seems a bit contradictory.

What's the Kingston HyperX grey like? Any good? The 4 reviews seem pretty positive but because I am not yet decided on my mainboard I am worried that buying the ram first might not be very sensible.

I've not seen anything bad said about them on the forum and OcUK must have sold a shed load.

I guess with me being so undecided on the mainboard (trawling through reviews galore at the moment), I am worried that if I pick the memory first, it might not end up being ideally compatible with the final mainboard I choose.

The mainboards that are catching my eye are:

Asus P67 Sabertooth
Gigabyte G1 Sniper 2 (extravagant I know)
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P
Gigabyte Z68-UD7
ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

My concern about the UD7 is the position of the only PCI-e slot as my Asus D2X soundcard will not fit. I gather you can fit them into other slots in some fashion but I don't know about that.

Anyway I won't go on about it in this section but just ask the question, should the Kingston ram be fine with the above board or any of the other Asus boards?

The Kingston HyperX should work fine with any P67 or Z68 board you care to mention.

I would say it will work fine but you never know.

No problem here with Kingston HyperX, have use it in several P67 boards, & have 16gb of it in my Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3.

Asrock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 is another board I would add to your list.

When you are as bad at making a decision as I am, adding another board is a bad thing ;)
