Hi guys I bought a non runner a few weeks ago, didnt have a log book so i applied for one through the dvla and registered it in my name..

straight to the point, from receiving the log book in the post, the car has been parked up for 7 days uninsured on private land, I didnt know the law about sorn ect until today (bit daft i know) anyway just added it to my policy even though it can't be driven,

Should i expect a fine or a letter from dvla for no insurance? it was only 7 days, Would I be best phoning them tomorrow and explaining what happend?

Is it normally a month-few months before they realise your uninsured?

Car is still taxed for 2 months if that makes a differnece

I wouldnt expect anything... I unknowingly forgot to tax my car for 3 weeks and nothing... no letter no fine nothing. I honestly don't think that the dvla are as hot on it all as they claim to be.

Basically, if its taxed, it has to be insured, regardless of whether its on private land or not. You *should* be ok tbh, certainly don't call them and ask, that's asking for trouble!

Hi pete I'm only 3 hours from you if you fancy a laugh, my email is in my profile, email me and I'll send you my phone number

I didn't have you down as being that way inclined tbh!

If I was Pete I'd be flattered though :)

I think you failed to insure a car that had a current tax disk. :) Even so your one in probably a million and you can't catch them all.

Lol I've made the odd mistake certainly woudnt call my self a failure and if anyone here saw what I have achieved for myself they wouldnt be saying that either

Its an 04 307 2.0 hdi, payed scrap value for it as cambelt snapped/slipped, going to set about taking it to bits to see what it needs this weekend, a nice running example is worth over around £1500 so I cant realy loose out

Big deal, you just bought the thing, there must be some leeway in getting all the paperwork sorted.

I wouldn't worry about it.
